URGENT!!Car Tax??

Quick question:

If i have just bought a car (without tax) can i still drive it back from the location i bought it from to my home address.? with a reciept off the seller?

SAM-S44MDS- 12th January 2011 13:08

If it aint taxed, it aint taxed. Shouldnt be driving it

craig180 12th January 2011 13:08

You will have up until the 14th day of any month to tax the car, which you can do at a post office with the new keeper supplement, otherwise no.

jonsey 12th January 2011 13:09

Just go to the post office and get a tax disc then drive home?

JoshB 12th January 2011 13:10

Or risk it for a biscuit

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:10

I cant because:

i have just change dmy insuranc eover to this new car, and it takes upto 7 days for the new insurance cert to come through.

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:11

from london to birmingham? i ent risking it with no tax

Silky 12th January 2011 13:12

You could risk it, but at that distance I wouldn't bother. There are so many camera's these days that one of them is bound to pick you up.

If it was a few miles then personally I would drive it back, but I wouldn't do that distance.

Either wait for the insurance docs to come through or phone up your insurer and get them to email them through

You dont need the insurance cert, tax the car online aslong as you have insurance.

It will check the database so you dont need the ceet. then you have taxed the car you just wont have the disk

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:14

tried phoneing and saying to email them but apparently they cant do that anymore! :( worth mentioning it been off road for the past month

Hatcha 12th January 2011 13:14

Are you feeling lucky? Risk it son.

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:15

makaveli - it states i need an mot, insurance cert and logbook to tax at post office

wrong, you do need an insurance certificate and valid MOT to purchase a tax disc

Pixie 12th January 2011 13:17

Surely if you have changed your insurance over the Phone and you put your start date to change for today's date, you are insured ?! :err:

Tax then drive home :y:

Prickle 12th January 2011 13:17

You'll be alright. ;)

and as he isnt the registered keeper the new disk goes to the chap he has just purchased the car from!!

not a very bright idea!

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:18

i will be insured straight away however, it takes upto 7 days to register with dvla, so cant do it online, and with no certificate i cant do by post office

LeeDewell0121 12th January 2011 13:19

the disc goin to previous owner isnt a prob as he sed he will post it to me

MikeYost 12th January 2011 13:19

Only thing you can do if you want to get it home today is tax it online, the tax disc will be sent to the previous owner though so you'll have to agree with him in the reciept for the car that he will send the disc when it arrives.

You obv won't have a tax disc in the car but your car will be taxed.
