Vinyls/Records
Anyone on here a collector? Ive just starting collecting since receiving a shed load from the old man. Been looking round local charity shops and records shops. Is ebay the next best place to have a butchers or does anyone know of any decent online stores?
|
What genre you after?
|
I have about 300 dance/Dj/bootleg 12" records and about 100 albums and collectables.
|
My old man, collects em pretty seriously, only for his own use, but one of our backroom walls is no longer visible because of it lol. I like em.
|
got probably just short of 5000 records to date, been an avid collector for years.
Discogs, simple as that. You won't find a better online source for reasonably (if not stupidly cheap) vinyl www.discogs.com :) |
my mom has an old carpenters record ( well lots of them ) But this one in paricular is a completely white label, With the album release information sheet and stuff. Searched the whole internet and asked record shops, no one knows what it is or how rare it is and i cant find one the same either. Closest guess we've had is that its a test press of the " Christmas portrait " album. One thing i can say is the carpenters fan club rekon it was " guard it with your life " material. Could be worth a shitload over in the states.

Bbbbuuuuttt im open to suggestions to temp me lol |
Well I'd suggest a technics 1210/1200. They need pre amping though so won't work with just plugging into a stereo, would need a pre amp/mixer as a solution to this. The thing with technics is that they're SO well built and SO reliable that you'd never need to buy anything else. The only downside, in terms of being a true audiophile, is the tone arm doesn't lend itself to UTTERLY shit hot sound quality, but if you felt flush somewhere down the line you could swap it out for an ol1 tonearm from Rega which will make the deck sound like a £5000 audiophile turntable. Obviously having good speaker (I'd recommend powered ones like KRK rokit rp5's for example) is a bit of a must.
Actually it all costs a fair bit haha. |

Don't think I can quite justify that sort of money just yet anyway :P |
know of someone with two. Upgraded the shitty RCAs as well, gloss paint, high power LEDs etc

Or you could buy yourself a Rega

Absolutely nothing wrong with the RCA's in a technics either, serve perfectly well unless you're spending upwards of £10k at each end of the sound chain. The Rega tonearms serve to give better stereo image and more detailed sound, but the end products only as strong as each link in the chain. Each to their own though... |
Ive just taken delivery of someones old collection i won on ebay. No idea whats in it lol shall open it up after work. Hopefully therea some goodies in there

http://www.analogueseduction.net/pro...ntable_REGA-P2 this is your best bet btw. Comes in about the same price as a second hand technics with an absolutely bog standard OL1 arm on it, so it's arguable you should go for the technics, but like I said...need pre amping as it's not a hi-fi turntable :)
