Fan staying on after engine is switched off

My saxo's fan keeps staying on after the engine has been turned off with the key out etc. Its been back to the mechanics several times and the sensors have been replaced, still the problem continues. Anyone shed any light on what might be the problem? Mechanic recons its an electrical fault to do with the dash :S

I have the same issue, been told it is a characteristic of the car... Mine goes off after a minute or so, everything is working fine all checked over but sometimes comes on after I've been driving or when in stand still traffic... Temp on dashboard looks fine so hope it's nothing to worry about

My old 1.1 did this, a shortage in the wire i tried all the sensors too ha sometime stayed on in general...

A friend at the garage sorted it, took a while to find the short.

also if the cars hot it can stay on for a few minutes to cool after the engine off and key removed. so may not be a fault :y:

its not a fault at all, an engine will often increase in tempreture after its switched off anyway due to lack of coolant circulation and no airflow over the rad, thats why a lot of cars are designed to allow the fan to run on after shut down.

+1 this is why some alarms have an extra wire thats goes to the fan to stop the alarm going off if the fan is operating.

mine does the same its not a problem it'll go off after a minute or two it'd only be a problem if it stayed on all night :y:

They said they may need to pull the dash off and it might need a new ECU?? Was it expensive to fix?

any chance he also shook his head and gasped for air and said i see what the problem is here?

as said every car i had has had the fan on for a short time after the ignition is turned off to allow air circulation around the engine for cooling.
