VTS Track Project -Updated Spec Page 6 | Caged | Buckets | Sachshift | LSD | Rebuilt JP4 | Ported + Cammed - PIC HEAVY

Evening all,

I've been a member on here for a few months now, before that I used to have a good browse on a regular basis.

So then.....

As she stood when purchased, 55k on the clock, only a couple of previous owner, plenty of service history and totally standard apart from a Magnex back box and a shite air filter.

WTF!

First of all, a good clean...

The open filter offended me from day 1 so I did my research and decided that a BMC CDA would be the best option without spending a fortune.

Next up was a new lower engine mount. The engine moved around quite a bit so I bought a replacement Powerflex lower gbox mount.

Even after changing that gash filter I though the engine bay was still looking a bit tatty, so I gave the cam cover a quick spray...

Right, suspension time! My previous car was an original Mini, and well... handled like a Mini. The standard setup on the Saxo didn’t really match that of the Mini so a change was needed! I did my research again and bought a kit from GMC which consisted of Bilstein Group N front dampers, Bilstein B8 rear dampers and -40mm GMC springs.

At the same time I replaced the top mounts, strut top bearings, drop links and track rod ends.

It was sitting a little too low at the back for my liking but I wasn’t too worried as it still had such luxuries as a spare wheel and interior ;-)

What better way to see how the new suspension felt than a Sunday blast with a mate. So I gave here a quick clean....

....and went for a drive...

Next up was the exhaust system. I wasn’t a fan of the Magnex and like a bit of rasp, so I bought a 2” Supersprint “Race” System and some motorsport mounts. This is the only pic i have, not much to show really.

Fancied a bit of bush, so I bought some Polyrace wishbone mounts and Powerflex front ARB mounts.

Interior time, decided the fat girl needed to go on a diet! So I bought a genuine fake OMP Corsica steering + boss, a pair of Sparco Rev bucket seats + side mounts (ebay bargain!) and some nice and new Sabelt 3” 4-point harnesses.

Seat rails all welded in...

All painted up in satin black...

Done!

Next up was some different road wheels. I knew the VTS wheels were heavy and fancied a change. I had a set of TD Pro Race 1.2’s sat in the garage that I intended on using on track but as I was back at uni that was not going to happen for a while.

So I bought a set of Yokohama Parada Spec 2’s and got them fitted.

I also changed the brakes from the totally standard setup to a 266mm setup with DS2500 pads.

A few weeks after changing the wheels, I was bored (and poor) at uni so I decided to paint wing mirror caps white...

Next up was the manifold, bought a nice shiney Raceland 4-2-1 and wrapped it on the kitchen table at uni ;)

At the same time the clutch was making some fantastic noises so I decided to do it all at once...

Mullered clutch...

On the rollers...

First time a few months before she made 124.5bhp with just the Supersprint and the CDA.

The second time she made 128.5bhp with the manifold, Supersprint and CDA (on the same rollers)

Next up was some prep ready for the ‘ring last year.

First of all, noob sticker....

Some appropriate footwear...

Some CF front and rear door cards + some 106 door bins (not pictured) + dog lead door handles.

TRS helmet hammock...

TRS soft tow and smaller number plate...

Quick detail...

What she weighed before the ‘ring...

A few pics from the ‘ring...

Back at uni, track car/delivery van...

Though a 50” TV would fit in no problem at all, I was wrong.

Finally a few pics of the recent mods.

Quaife nylon gear knob...

Before – Phillips Bluevisions.....

After – 6000k HID kit....

New discs and Carbon Lorraine RC5+ pads (DS2500 were shagged and I fancied a change).....

I love them but the girlfriend isn’t so fond of the brake squeal.

I’ve missed quite a few things off but that’s all the pics I have.

Thanks for looking.

Chris

Love The Sparco Bucket Seats

Chris245 29th March 2011 20:11

Cheers dude, one of the best mods I've done.

Nice and comfy on long distances but they're really tight and I don't move at all when on track.

Paul 29th March 2011 20:23

Looks good, like it alot. :y:

Chris245 29th March 2011 20:47

Cheers dude!

Paul 29th March 2011 20:56

Got any more trackdays planned/booked?

I need to book a couple.

Chris245 29th March 2011 21:02

I did Cadwell back in Feb and I really want to get some more booked but I'm back at uni and back to being poor.

Once I've got my dissertation out the way and got the last instalment of my student loan, I think another one will get book, probably Cadwell again.

Where do you fancy next?

Richy_Rich 29th March 2011 23:06

Looking good!

But dear god, please remove the egr valve (i think its called)

Chris245 30th March 2011 11:07

Cheers mate!

I've thought about it. Does it actually do anything?

DannyVTS 30th March 2011 11:25

I thought the EGR took exhaust gas from the standard manifold? Which you don't have anymore ?

Epic thread though matey! Where did you get it weighed?

Jay_ 30th March 2011 11:33

lookd great mate!! get a lower brace for that littke bit extra handling! :y:

EDIT - yes i didnt read it all. you already have one...

Richy_Rich 30th March 2011 11:42

I dint think it adds anything. It certainly doesn't loose anything!

Just looks alot tidyer without

I'm thinking of going Oulton Park next (pretty expensive though). I did Angelsey in febuary (loved it) but was abit far away. Planning on going Oulton park in april or may, sometime.

It's something to do with exhanging heat from the water to the oil, or vice versa.

Nothing to do with the exhaust dude.

Nice one! I wont be out again until May or June.

Were you at cadwell on feb 13th i think it was? When there were a few saxo's; green and black one, a black throttle bodies one, another black one and a standard looking silver one?

Great car you have. Like the VTR wheels wrapped in those yoko's.

Chris245 30th March 2011 13:46

Yeeeh that was me ;) Where you there as well?

Cheers! A 14" VTR wheel weighs the same as a 15" TD 1.2 so can't complain really. Plus the yoko's are soooooooo much cheaper in 14" :)

harry289 30th March 2011 13:57

Yeah i was in the standard silver vtr. Just had some eibach springs. She went well considering :)

Hope to get out on track again soon when my car is ready. Had to take it steady last time, needed my car again the next day.

Yeah i do like your car. I wish mine was black! Is this just a track car or do you use it as a daily aswell?

haz_pro 30th March 2011 14:17

"genuine fake" made me lol.
