any ideas on how to open a door with the door handle stuck

:D
under the stairs cupboard with lots of stuff in it, somethings fallen against the door and its wedged under the handle so you cant push it down to open the door. obviously theres no other way in and i have absolutely no idea how to get it open without having to demolish the door.
any ideas? lol :panic:

nicole_ 17th May 2011 15:08

okay so whichever method i use, the doors gunna get damaged i guess? :(

gaz4399 17th May 2011 15:12

if the catch has a slant and facing the correct way then you will be able to use a normal plastic card (bank card etc, i would just use an old card) to fit in the gap and wiggle to release the door ;)

when my housemate lost his key at uni he used this method every time to get into his room to save paying for a new key

Just break the door, they are really cheap for a new one at places like Wickes/B&Q.

Look, just £20.

You can even have fun going ape shit on the door, if I was in your situation, it would be perfect time to release some anger.

If you can unscrew the four screws that hold the handle to the door, do so. There will then be a square bar running through from the handle you've just taken off through to the handle on the other side. Pull the bar out so far that it is not connected to the handle on the other side, then with either the handle you have taken off, or a pair of pliers turn the metal bar, and the catch will release without moving the handle on the otherside. It's very simple just hard to explain in words.
