Was Dreading This !
Just changed my clutch today. It all went on ok (or so I thought) and luckily getting the gearbox back on only took me and a trolley jack 25 minutes (I've got a clutch alignment tool so reckon that helped). Got all the leads / drivehafts etc back on , started the car and pushed in the clutch and got a nightmare of a noise which sounds like something rubbing against the pressure plate spines.
Reckon the bearing has falled off the fork and it's the fork thats hitting the splines so to say I'm mighty pissed off is the understatment of the year. Why are these bloody things only just held on by 2 crappy little clips , it feels so loose when you come to refit , like its not on properly. I wouldn't even call em clips. I even taped up the clutch lever so it couldn't move so christ knows how its managed to fall off. Looks like I'm on it tomorrow - Think the phrase rhymes with Clucking Bell ! Cheers |
Damn! Wish i had the balls to take on a job like that! Most ive ever done myself was fit an Induction Kit, lol.

I think the word is "cool story bro"
just one them things.. |
lol unlucky. Always make sure when you are putting the gearbox back on to not nudge the fork or the release bearing will fall off pretty easily. Never had that problem before as ive been carefull, but without focusing on it, i can see it happeneing fairley easily.

Lol checked mine roughly 8 times during refitting

Aye gotta laugh I suppose. I think it says in the Haynes book.
"The clutch release bearing is held onto the fork by good luck and the throw of a dice." Also it was a pig of a job to get the lower roll bar securing bracket back on and matched up with the bolt holes on the wishbone and in the end it snapped so will have to replace that as well. When it rains it bleeding pours eh ! |

if doing it by myslef i normally stick socket extensions/allen keys/whatever i can find in the box in random places and cable tie the clutch arm back so it cant fall off just fitted new clutch to new engine out of the bay, and its noisey as fuck :wall: gonna have to remvoe it anyway, noisey and squeeling occasionally, must be dry, sometimes its fine and sometimes its not, id rather remove the lump the the box |
I was thinking of wrapping a small amount of thin wire around the clips / fork arms and then snipping the excess off. I can see this interfering with the action and it would make sure the bearing stayed on the fork.
I couldn't believe the "clips" when I first saw the saxo release bearings , there must be like 2-3mm of plastic holding it to the fork ! |
You've just gotta keep the lever all the way out when refitting so the release bearing doesnt fall off.

i done this a few eeks ago me and a friend lifted it up in by hand and nearly every time we hit the clutch lever and poped the bearing off the input shaft it was melt but got there in the end. just need to stick at it and make sure its on.

my clutch is playing up atm (not completely gone yet but sounds bad and feels crap) my stepdad will be the one doing the job for me, sounds pretty fragile though :/ whats rough prices for a clutch? and what about just for the clutch bearing? could be either of the two...mind you if we strip whole engine down and change bearing and it turns out its whole clutch we're buggered and in same boat as you mate haha, so may as well do whole job whilst at it depending on price...?

If yer taking the gearbox off you should definately do the clutch at the same time cos its a bit of a headache just getting the box off.
Euro car parts do a Sachs clutch kit for about £64 or you can get a LUK kit for about £68 of Ebay. Dont go for the cheap clutch kits they're garbage. Trawl the forum on here for good advice on gearbox removal and clutch fitting. Would also reccomend a clutch alignment tool for lining up the clutch properly. Not a hard job its just long and a brutal on the ole back. |
Yh i thought that! Thanks for the reply, really helps! I'll check other forums out definately! :)

ps- does it have to be a certain clutch? i can see VTR and VTS ones on ebay? but i own a furio...
