Ian's Quest for Boost!

hello!

Hi im ian from Frome in Somerset. Im an Aeronautical Engineer Apprentice at RNAS Yeovilton and have been there almost a year now. Ive had 8 cars in the last 2 years :wall: . 2 minis, mk1 Golf, Polo GTI, 2 s2 rallyes, Polo TDI and now an 06 Corsa as a runabout.

AS you can guess from the title im going for boost ;)
Ive just bought a 16v engine to get the ball rolling, and once complete I will source either an S1 xsi or s1 Rallye.

Plans are;
Full stripped and rebuilt 16v
Arp Rod bolts
Decomp plate
t28 or similar??
Any manfold ( lots to choose from)

Progress so far:

Fully stripped the engine, cleaned and Painted. Got all parts sandblasted at work ready for paint too.

:hug: Plans sound good! Would love an S1 rallye with a mental spec valver in there cos they are a fair bit lighter aren't they!! All those cars though thats awful haha (what happened to the Rallyes you had?! pm me if you don't wanna clog this thread up lol).. when are you planning on getting this all built up then? Will be hard finding a mint S1 shell tbh (unless your not worried about mint and are just gunna thrash it round a track anyway?!) Will be a beast though if you get it to mental spec... ahh the joys of having money and working full time! :n: :wall:

;) thats the plan James, Keep it light!
haha i know mate, my parents rage lol! The white one needed too much work and the blue one had to go as was not up for the 60 mile commute to work everyday :n: . The blue one now belongs to a mate over in Trowbridge who has put a throttle bodied valver in.

Plan is to just take the build at a steady pace, try not to rush things and do everything right first time. Finding a mint s1 will be hard but im not too bothered as if i find one that needs work it shouldnt be a problem.

Im finding similar spec engines run about 220bhp at a bar so should be interesting! how your beast mate?

Haha fair enough mate! Yeah don't rush anything, better to take longer and not have any issues! Yeah that would be f*ckin quick in an S1! I'll keep my eye on this man for updates etc! Ahh she's alright pal, running fine and looking as fresh as ever?! :p You going to FCS?

Got a bit of work done today :) .
Got a valve compressor from Halfrauds and then realised it wouldnt work on this type of head, DOH :wall: . So in the end made some contraption up with the help of Frank and got it apart.
Also took the block over to M&J in Westbury to get the block decked and honed. pics;

Am taking the head to work tomorrow to get checked over and skimmed.

UPDATE!!!

Ok so after 'umming' and arrring' over the last couple of weeks ive decided to ditch the decomp method and i am going forged ;)

Plan now stands at;

Rebore to 79mm
Wossner forged pistons and steel rods
GT28 possibly
Inlet cam, possibly 708

Also got some work started on the head rebuild. Cleaned up all the inlet valves;

ianpettifer 12th June 2011 21:04

UPDATE!

Had a good day on Friday; Got home to find my Wossner low comps had arrived and then got a call from the machine shop. So i went and picked up the block and new ACL race bearings. Happy days! pics;
