volt gauge

hi all can any one help im thinking of installing a volt gauge just wondering if there a how to guilde on here as i dont know where about you connect the wire by car ignition or can i wire straight to batter with a switch to turn it on ? as i dont what it on all the time and drain the battery

they are pretty simple really, you can tap off the switched live and earth off the back of your head unit. then that way the volt gauge will only be on when the ignition is on.
