fuel pump and coolant hoses... will they fit? PICS UP!!
Right just planning my vtr conversion out on my 1.1 saxo, and just wondering if the coolant hoses on my 1.1 saxo are the same as vtr ones and if I need to change my 1.1 fuel pump to a vtr fuel pump? Cheers
i'm pretty sure the hoses will be the same because the vtr has a small radiator aswell. and there is no need to change the fuel pump. i'm using the 1.1 pump on my 16v conversion
Ahh right cheers for that mate
Dunno about mk2, but mk1 1.1 pumps werent up to the task of supplying a 1.6.
Ahhh I have mk1 engine but mk2 dials so we will see how things go :)
mines was the same mate. mk1 underneath
Ahh right so did you have to get a crossover engine conversion for you saxo?
nope. single plug and no splicing
So what reg is yours then? What reg was your engine out of? I'm being told that I need a crossover conversion for my w reg saxo?
mine is w reg aswell. it was a single plug 1.1 spi engine i had originally. i have digital clocks aswell if that makes a difference. my 16v engine is maybe out of a 98 gti(not entirely sure about the year but its the earlier type with the screw on oil filter) and ecu and loom are from an s reg vts
EDIT - just looked at your progress thread and you have the same engine as i had. if i was you i would stick with single plug stuff |
So I could just buy a full conversion kit from a S reg or T reg mk1 vtr then and littrally just plug it all in and play? How do the dials work? They work normally or you need vtr 1s?
i think so mate. mine was just plug and play and my dials work fine. oh and rather than vtr, maybe look at a rallye engine. that was my origional plan but the guy sold the engine to someone else so i just went 16v instead. and done it on the 1.1 mount
Yer I thought about the rallye engine but there is non about :( so you are still using the 1.1 dials then?
yes i kept the same clocks. never changed anything inside the car. the only things i changed were the engine, loom, ecu, a few hoses and the front brakes. and the radiator but thats only because my old one was burst. i'm still using the 1.1 gearbox, shafts, suspension, rear drum brakes and engine mount. i even used the starter and alternator from my 1.1 engine
EDIT - i used the crank sensor from the 1.1 aswell |
This is pretty use full tbh mate I will put an vts box on the vtr lump and I was told my shafts will fit starter and that so hope to find a decent conversion with low ish mileges
i have an ax gti box that needs a refurb that will eventually go on. i'm having fun with the 1.1 box just now. not too fussed the now about the lack of top speed. great acceleration from it. you should come by a decent engine no problem. there are rakes of vtr ones for sale. are you planning to rebuild it before it goes in? i got my 16v and just fired it in as it had a new cambelt on it. but the waterpump went within 200 miles. so look into maybe doing them. have you not thought about just putting the 16v in? if your going to all the hassle of a conversion you would probably be aswell just doing that. like i say, i done mine on the 1.1 mounts. i got my engine for £200 and the only money i have put into it was for the ecu, loom, throttle body, throttle cable, waterpump, 4 branch and lightened flywheel. so say an extra £150. labour was free. me and a few friends all the work on a friday night/saturday afternoon. 8 hours altogether. it helped that one of them is a citroen specialist :p
Ahh sounds real good mate and I want to declaire the engine to the insurance so I think 16v is too muich money also I could do the conversion in a day at work so labour isn't a problem for me either, and yer I'm going to re-build the lump and probs add a cam clean the head up 4 branch and that and then probs a re-map on it but I've got some more things to do before I do the re-map
mate i just had a quick look for you. i think you should maybe go for this if you can afford it ;)

Owwwwwwww looks nice that does, you reckon a normal vtr unlocked ecu will work with that? Also need to see if it has a gearbox and stuff
The VTR ecu on that will run, but it will be total dogshite, the VTR rev limiter will kick in before the engine is at full power for starters.
