LED dassh conversion

Hey people, first thread on here.

I got myself a little '98 1.1SX the other day, first car, from a mate. Pretty tidy for the year few minor things to iron out but goes well etc.

Anyway, one of the lights behind the Speedo is dim (lights up the 20-40mph area). I thought I might has well pull out all the old bulbs that are behind there and replace them with white LEDs, it's in keeping with the few mods I wanna do (all simple stuff just to tidy the car up/make it look a bit newer).

Question is, the existing setup has the little dial under the steering column that allows you to dim/brighten the dash lights. If I change to LEDs will this feature still work or would I loose it?

They are nice little cars, look pretty neat for a lower end Saxo, has more or less all the stuff I was bothered about (wanted fog lights, sun roof, electric windows and central locking everthing else was negotiable)

The guy I had mine from is a good mate, and a good mechanic, I've known the car for years now and said a few times that if he was to sell it I'd take it. he text me the other week saying he'd got himself a souped up Pug 106 (really nice bit of kit) so I bit his had off for the Sax.
It's also been slammed 40mil and he's done a bunch of other stuff to the suspension, it does go round corners beautifully.

It's my first car, I've not actually passed yet so I'm on L-Plates ! I don't think it'll take much to get through the test though, I had a bunch of lessons in the past just never got round to finishing up.

The car is remarkabley tidy, could do with new mirrors and the paint on the roof is a bit manky but I'm handy with a rattle-can (I restore bikes so practiced alot on those) so come spring I'll sort that out. One tiny mark on the boot lid is the only exterior thing.
Wanna either refit the door cards or get some off a VTR/S, chuck some seat covers over... then I'll just piss about with things like these LEDs etc as and when I can be bothered. Ordered some clear repeaters last night, just look a bit more modern than the amber ones me thinks for the sake of a few quid.

Mk 1 dials have bulbs? Do these still need soldering? What type of bulb can I replace my old ones with as my dash lights are dim.
