coillies........

Rite, i have about 300 quid to spend on lowering my car. All of the coilovers iv looked at only go bout 60mm drop and the cheaper 1's drop lower but r shit :n: Whats the best option to go for?

AlexB 28th December 2011 16:20

A good spring amd damper kit

Forget coilovers for 300 quid and just get apex or spax kit

with a spring and damper kit the lowest is like 60mm isnt it?

rorz_vts 28th December 2011 16:58

yes unless you cut the springs

LSOfreak 28th December 2011 17:02

depending if you want to go lower than 50mm as most springs dont actually give a full 60mm drop. for 50mm then apex or spax kits are fine and cost about £200

if you want it low then you can make up some custom coilovers for that much probably. Need to do a bit of research as to what bits to use though. You'll need a shorter damper, custom springs, threaded collar and adjusters

AlexB 28th December 2011 17:33

The only dampers id use in coilies to go below 60 mm are pugsport tarmacs

Thats his budget gone on just dampers
you could run a lower spec like apex damper but that low you need a much stiffer spring to not be clattering bumpstops and the lower spec dampers wont be able to cope with the required spring rate

LSOfreak 28th December 2011 17:49

thats quite alot for just dampers lol
do you know how much gaz GHA dampers are? if they can be bought seperately

Vtr_Cam 28th December 2011 19:06

Can get gaz coil overs for £350 if you can stretch it. Good quality too.

ye thers a kit thats 200 quid but u'v got to grind each strut so the threaded coller go's on which im not bothered about it'l jus b realy shit quality. Probs go for the springs and dampers then mabey cut them. herd cutting them is a tad dodgy lol

Tbh there worth it
They are what we used in leas porsche grey saxo at 105mm down on the front

a lot of coilovers on the market need modding to get below 60-70mm and your budget again goes out the window

With any less than 5/600 quid id really just say forget getting lower than 60mm and having any sort of driveability

m11ler 30th December 2011 14:42

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the OP is running 13" starmags.. So springs and dampers arent an option. I'd reccommend gaz coilovers, see how it looks with the standard springs included with them, if not, get some 5" springs custom made.
Davo_106 had gaz coilies on his vt with starmags and it looked okay even before he had custom springs fitted. Also lsofreak has custom 5inch springs fitted aswell.
And the coilies can be bought for £350 if the 106oc group buy is still running. If not they're £400 on ebay, and im sure you could stretch that.

yes i can now!! i was in my mates polo yesturday and its 120mm down on 14'' rsl's, nd it looked realy nice!! im gonna have 2 go that low with 13'' jus 2 get the decent look :y:

LSOfreak 31st December 2011 12:57

look around for some gaz coilovers. Got mine for £240 then found it werent low enough so bought some custom 5inch springs for £30. Its now sitting at about 90mm on the front

Tbh unless you're going for the full 'stance' scene with poke and that i can't see the point in going past 60mm. 60mm is a nice height for a Saxo.

AlexB 31st December 2011 15:22

Just a thought here
it says you have a 1.1 in your shit at the side

The 1.1 arb wont work going silly low the design of it means it will be rediculously stressed ad may hit the shell
so if you do wnna go low this may need removing or swapping for a vt item

id still say that gaz are the bottom end of the price range for coilovers and tbh i personally would go for something better and pend a little extraGaz arent bad but they arent brilliant unless you spent out on golds or stock hatch stuff

LSOfreak 31st December 2011 16:14

depends what you use your car for. For just simple town driving the gaz GHA does me fine :A:
