Chris-5390 18th March 2012 07:30

Don't know how many sheets of crap paper I used before I decided to get some good stuff oxide paper worked the best

Chris-5390 18th March 2012 07:31

Chris-5390 18th March 2012 07:33

Got about half a wheel done

Chris-5390 18th March 2012 07:35

Then got out the big guns

Chris-5390 18th March 2012 07:38

After a few more hours of hand sanding ready for painting although I went a little lower than I wanted should be fine

dont mean to sound a cock, but you have just done them same way as most people on budget on here, which ist the way it would be done by a professional body shop.

M8 they have been taken right down to alloy fully primed and skimed sprayed with the best heat prof paint then slowly heated and laquerd the paint is as hard as steel If I kerbd these wheels the kerb would be scuffed

I doubt that mate.

But nice effort. I would of went for Silver again.

mlawlan69 19th March 2012 23:31

look really really good, i started mine about a month ago, but using the same shite paper that you started using. i bought some sanding wheels from ebay to get them done much faster only to be told by my dad that some pikey bastard had been in our shed and stolen the fucking drill !!!!

so now they are just sat in my garden haha

mate i own a massive body shop and motorsport prep company... i no what am talking about correct way to do alloys is as follows...

sand down/ paint strip wire brush/ sand/shit blast
pannel wipe
2k etch primer, bake off in booth,
sand with 240,
pannel wipe,
2k primer (5/6 coats) bake off in booth,
spray with guide coat
sand with some p500wet proper automotive stuff not wicks shit.
pannel wipe and tack wipe,
apply 5/6 layers of base coat,
5/6 layers of 2k laquers. bake off. done.

that is the correct way to paint anythiing. all 2k items are alot stronger then anything you will get in a rattle can, the finish will always be million times better/glossy as been used with a proper spray gun (my guns are like 300quid each) and a booth are over 10grand...

you have done a good diy effort and they look good dont get me wrong but not the "correct professinal way". am not been smart with you just giving u insight into proper automotive refinishing, if u look about on here you will come a cross my work alot.

i maybe wrong ,,but i was in the understanding that you shouldnt take a snader to alloy as it s to much for the metal..ie takes to much out...if that makes any sense

boarer2004 20th March 2012 00:09

Plus you only done the face of the wheels and as said you nee to sand between coats I left my an hour between coats

LSOfreak 20th March 2012 00:11

you paid £70 for vtr wheels without tyres that needed a refurb? they saw you coming lol

good job on the wheels though. Wouldve personally done them any other colour than black tbh far too common and dull imo
