Lacey's MINI Cooper S. Plans & Progress

Well as you know I bought myself a nice little replacement for the Saxo. ;)

05 plate Cooper S.

Lots of extras, aero kit, sat nag, chilli pack etc etc.

looking good, missus just bought a Mini Cooper, feels sooo wierd to drive over the Saxo don't you think?

So while I was waiting to pick it up I was getting excited about plans. First things first, the wheels need to be sorted. All MINI split rims have terrible problems with bubbling. They look wrecked at the moment, and really need taking back to base and starting again. So those were my original plans....

But then I got swayed by some BBS lm's.

But they are fucking expensive and I knew it would be a while off until I could afford to get some.

Whilst browsing for that elusive BBS bargain, I came across some Schmidt th lines. I actually fell in love.

I think they are slightly marmite wheels? But they are completely indestructible and therefore a sound investment. :p

Prefer the BBS.....

Gearbox is hard work! I'm working those guns! Feels huge compared to the Saxo, turning circle isn't brilliant compared to the sax.
But I love it. It can do no wrong in my eyes currently :p

lmao, I quite like the box, feels very solid, the steering feels heavy as hell to me, like i'm drivin a bus :panic: standard cooper doesn't feel any quicker than my Sax either which is abit disappointing

The steering and clutch are real heavy its actually a mans car.

Standard cooper feels heavy and sluggish IMO. I had a cooper before this, I can't even explain the difference to you in terms of power, it's just there immediately, you never have to wait. It's good fun. :)

m11ler 28th March 2012 11:23

Gotta be honest, the schmidts look a bit schmidt on that mini. On the other hand those LM's would look the nuts!

yeah, doesn't seem to kick in till about 3k revs, seems almost bogged down from anything less than that. Shame the S was a silly cost to insure over the standard Cooper. Not sure on the Schmidts, need some kind of multispoke like the BBS

Gandi699 28th March 2012 11:28

The BBS are a pleasant design those schmidt things arent imo

holdawayt 28th March 2012 11:32

I'd go for the th lines. I like how you've got the computer thingy where the speedo normally goes. Couldnt get on with fayes having it there. Glad it wasnt just our gearbox that felt stiff too.

Lacey_106 28th March 2012 11:38

I do like the BBS but they're very expensive and very common. If a cheap set come my way then I'll buy them and then have those AND the th lines. But the Schmidts are my fave. They're different and they are completely indestructible. I like that.

Yeah Tom, all the gearboxes are stiff, notice it more so in my s than I did in the cooper though. Apparently the gearboxes are coated with Teflon? Cool.

I think your mean the supercharger is coated in teflon ;)

The gearbox's between the cooper and s are different the cooper s box is much stronger.

I knew the SC was coated in Teflon but I thought the gearbox was too? Or at least key components? Hmmm...
