Toyo Proxes 4 Vs T-1R's

The prices aren't much different (£10 - £15), but overall which is the better one for wet and dry grip?

rey 6th June 2012 22:22

Both are shite and wear out faster than your nans tena's

logic_guy 6th June 2012 22:38

HAHA. Fair enough.

Why do people highly recommend these then? and what would you personally use? (Country/ twisty road driving)

Because one person said they're good, so everyone jumped on the wagon.

Michelin PE2's or whatever they're now called are the best all round tyre for a saxo. they last for ever, grip well, aid braking and work well in both wet and dry.

why ya say that? i've used t1r's before and found them to be better than most other things i had used, but yeah they do wear out quickly when abused,

I can't afford over £400 for them :boxing: I was thinking of the Kuhmo's but seems everyone says Toyo's :homme:

rey 6th June 2012 22:43

Because the sidewalls are weak, they wear stupidly quickly, the grip is sub par when compared with others.

I'd much rather bung some falken fk452's on than any toyo other than an R888.

Ashleyp 6th June 2012 22:47

Kuhmo KU31's or KH32's or whatever they're called are good, Dan.

Not as good as the miche's but they're IMO better than toyos after using a set of each.

probably the best mid budget tyre out there.

PS: £400 is cheap :)

I see these are quite common (with a quick search). I'm not really doig much track days. I'll try the Falkens.

Thanks Rey :y:

Edit: I'm guessing you'd pay that for your front 2 tyres Ash?

Mikol has Kuhmo's on his car but I managed to get his car to under-steer the other week.

not quite that much! rears are about £145 each last time I checked for conti's

Understeer can't always be put down to tyre choice, It's FWD so will always understeer if pushed hard enough. the biggest factor is the driver though ;)

wadoryu 6th June 2012 22:57

If got conti premium contact 2 on my swift, good grip all year round, but they wear by looking at them :/ have good praise for pirelli p7s if used.

rey 6th June 2012 23:02

Can pay upto £150 a corner on mine...

I miss saxo days aha

Or could try these: Link

Mochachino 6th June 2012 23:09

Also dont understand why there is so much hype for the Toyo T1Rs in particular. Theyre easily out performed by other tyres, no contest. Toyo CF1s out perform them also.

Rainsport 2's are rated highly and im fond of them also Federal RSRs

Offft, £150 a corner! :panic:

I had some Conti Contact 2's on my slammed Punto (155/65/13). They lasted a very long time but I got alot of tyre squeal. If i'm honest I wouldn't have them again.

So why are Toyo's over rated?

Karl 6th June 2012 23:10

Good shout those Rey.
What you are meant to put on a 197 (or certainly similar)

Proxies are "ok". As said though, they wear so bloody fast.

Not sure how any one can answer this question lol, thy just are mainly on this forum like ashley said.

I think its because theyre cheap and alot of first time drivers on here, so they want cheap, and as these are the only tyres they have used they think theyre good as they dont have anything to compare them to.

Ive always said theyre shit in comparison to what else is available, currently got 2 on my integra and reminded me how shit they are.

Rainsports 2s I recommend, also Eagle F1s, VERY similar to the Rainsport 2s although the F1s dont last long at all, even less than T1Rs, also cost twice as much.

Continental Sport contacts last forever and provide good test results, so more down to whether you like them or not, theyre a good tyre.

Avoid Parada spec 2's they over heat far too easily, shit in the wet, wear out more than eagle F1s, very very soft sidewalls resulting in worn shoulders and melted shoulders.

Its kind of funny each forum has its band wagon tyre.

rey 6th June 2012 23:21

Haha yeah, CTRO wank all over potenzas to be fair

my mate spent 660 quid, yes, 660 quid on 3 tyres for his mini! 660 quid for 3 tyres!!!!!!! :panic:

LSOfreak 6th June 2012 23:23

in answer to the question, they both feel exactly the same
nothing wrong with toyos though in terms of performance, just wear down quicker than other brands
