Air Filter

I have one of those cone air filters on the car. Just wondering, do they actually make any difference what so ever? Bearing in mind its only a 1.1 lol If not i might just take it off. One less modification to declare..

just make a noise to be honest mate

MPHZONE 11th August 2012 21:31

Ah i see.. lol ok thanks mate, might think about taking it off then.

slimwiltaz 11th August 2012 21:33

its up to you like, if you like the noise keep it on, but don't think it will be doing much for power gains, better of with a standard air box

MPHZONE 11th August 2012 21:34

Well i do like the noise, and it looks pretty cool when you open the bonnet i guess. Thanks for the help. I'll have to think about it.

Just be sucking in hot air from engine bay

slimwiltaz 11th August 2012 21:38

no probs, i had an open filter on my vts when i bought it, upgraded to a k&n Apollo enclosed induction kit.

KandN Apollo ftw there awesome.

Dany4494 12th August 2012 12:01

You'll just be getting a lot of heatsoak, so less power if anything.

Karlb1 12th August 2012 12:46

At that location you'll just be sucking in hot air, it needs to be towards the front of the engine so if you DO want to keep it then get some air ducting pipe and attatch it to that closer to the front of the bay. It just makes noise though tbh, no notiecable gains, if anything it will lower your power, especially in lower RPMs.

And that little black plastic pipe hanging from the top right of your engine head should really have a little breather filter there instead, iirc it's an oil breather pipe so it might blow oil onto the cone filter occasionally, but yo'd need someone else to confirm this as i always run the standard air box with an uprated panel filter.

MPHZONE 12th August 2012 15:29

Thank you so much, very informative. I'll look into getting some pipes for it. And i keep meaning to get a little oiler breather filter, keep forgetting, saw one in halfords but that probably wont be of the best quality.

Karlb1 12th August 2012 17:02

The ones in halfords are adequite, they all do the same, but every now and then all breather filters will still spill a little oil at some point. Best thing to do would be to get an enclosed induction kit like the Raceland model which has a built in breather hole for the oil feed. But if youre aiming not to spend money then id just go with the breather filter in Halfords.

MPHZONE 12th August 2012 20:35

Ah ok thanks, i'll just stick with the Halfords one for now, should do for now. When i get the money i'll think about upgrading it.

Karlb1 12th August 2012 23:37

Yeah that'd probably be the best thing for now.

Like i say though, the best air filtration system is the standard housing with an upgraded panel filter like a K&N panel, BMC, Green etc or an enclosed system like the Raceland
