Track day brake set up
 
In response to the Suspension thread Id like to know if my brakes will die on the track. I have drilled and grooved discs up front (standard size) and normal pads. On the rear I have brand new set of standard discs and pads. Upon entry to the first corner am I going to regret my decision to go out on the track? Any adive would be very helpful, thanks

when i had standard brakes i got really bad brake fade on track.
with omp discs and pads i didnt get any fade.
but with gti 180 brakes i get no fade and loads more stopping power.

Ah, excellent. Are the rears different on a saxo to a gti? I may have to change them over...

You can also do a 206 gti upgrade on 106's can you do that on saxos aswell?

the rear brakes are the same size on saxo to 206.
gti 6 = 283mm disc , need 15 inch wheels
gti 180 = 283mm + need 15z
206 gti = 266mm + need 14s.

From memory about 237mm, but dont quote me. Im sure I wrote the correct size in a how-to guide somewhere :P

Ah cool, I dont think I will be changing my wheels so I think Ill go for the 206 gti set up. Ill have a look at prices tomorrow at work.

pm axo16v on ssc mate, he owns a citroen/pug breakers yard and will get you some ofr a good price.

just use standard discs and genuine pads.

Yes, youre right... but lower spec saxos came with 238mm, hence the confusion on my part ;)

i was using solid disks and cheap pads on track at fcs.. and i had no problems.. hopefully my new disks and pads should be better for trax! :P

it depends entirely on how you brake, if you are more of a hard heavy braker you will generate more heat than light smooth braking, so will cook the pads and disks fast, just do short runs as soon as they get hot let em cool for a lap or so then get back on it again. at least you not got green stuff theyre wank. see how you get on but if your upgrading i would recommend upgrading the calipers as this will give you more bite on the pads even if the temps are slightly hotter. I cained up my hi specs and had em smoking but still had good braking because of th sheer power of the 4 pots. Go to a good breakers yard and just find a bent gti 180 and ull get em cheap :P they will work well with standard disks and pads to. I wouldnt recomend race pads if the car is a road car, as you will need good bite from cold.
