Oli-VTR 19th November 2012 08:46

how do you run a turbo and a supercharger? surely one has to come first?

Is not hard called compound charging,
Been about for many years,
A few production cars seem to be using it now,
I'm guessing the turbo is quite large and the s/c makes up the low end and helps spool up.

Gandi699 19th November 2012 08:56

Jet turbines are out then? Doing what they did with the xj220 here :(

Manu 19th November 2012 10:09

Hmmmm, what's the cost in the long run, batteries, spare parts etc? The xj220 didn't go that far.

saxova 19th November 2012 10:18

Anyone with 900k to spend on a 'super car' really shouldn't be bothered by running costs.

Therefore why would they choose a 4 pot 1.6 engine when they can have a growling V8/V10? :P

Give it a few more years and V10's will no longer exist and V8's will be on their way out. Just like the V12's are now.

Sad day for the petrol head..

Ross 19th November 2012 10:22

it's all about being green @ 200mph, y0.

There was a racing AX Sport years ago that was compound charged, and produced 420bhp out a 1294cc engine :)

Mike- 19th November 2012 14:18

1.6 you say?...

...Brb!

m4tt274 19th November 2012 18:18

amazing how technology has come on.
they can make 500bhp from a 2.0 and have done for years. Cosworth YB for example. But they dont last long and emissions are crazy. This i assume will be economical (ish) quiet and relatively green.

Mr_X 19th November 2012 19:39

Will this finally put an end to all the what is the fasted 1.6 threads?

yr51ocw 19th November 2012 20:57

seen one of these in the flesh a couple of weeks ago, and they look very impressive.

The autocar advert is full of BS though.
