Certified/Recommended Advice
Food for thought, lots and lots of technical questions get asked on this forum and lots of members reply with conflicting advice, some times the advice/answer given is completly wrong aswell.
We do have qualified members on here who give sound technical advice but sometimes they have to argue a point when they are right when another member has given the incorrect advice. If the op dosent know either member how do they know which advice to take? Maybe an official signature or something like that could be used to allocate which members are experienced or rather recognised officially as knowledgeable and can give 'official' advice. How you would qualify for it im not sure just and idea. |
They have this on some building forums i'm on (yes, sad i know)
Certain posts get tagged with 'top answer', 'correct info' etc |
I like this idea something like the spanner in for the track section to say what you are qualified in or have proven knowledge in.
|
It's a fair shout - worth discussing more :)
|
The problem with forums is you can get a lot of keyboard warriors. Even if somebody is qualified in relation to the topic, doesn't always mean they're right. A 'top answer' vote style thing would be the best option imo.

Something like this:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=233296 I'll nudge Scott and get him to pop his head in the thread :) |
Could be a good idea BUT.. with so many variations when it comes to cars such as age. Service history, condition of parts etc. It could be a bit dodgy if some one tries something that has been recommended by an approved member and it then goes wrong. Could the advisor or ultimately the forum not be held accountable in some way for the failure?
Just a thought? |
It would have to come with a disclaimer that at the end of the day it is just advice and that they cannot be held responsible for problems etc
|
Realistically though, if you are trying the advice of anyone you are doing so at your own risk, it is only when you pay someone to do the job for you that the responsibility lies with the person doing the job.
I think it's a great shout tbh. |
I'm sure their would be some bit of legal attached BUT I can guarantee someone will try it on.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good idea and I see it used on other forums but I just think that a lot of people could misconstru the information and land the forum in trouble when it goes wrong. The forum does have a lot of solid information and yes you do have to sift through all the crap but, for me, that's part of the fun of learning about these cars and the parts for them. Their is the answer to every question on here if you look for it. You have to use your own judgement, knowledge and experience to deem if it is right for you and your car. |
Just noting i have read. Warrants some further discussion, let me have a waggle of a chin and see what we can come up with.
Agree there are concerns about possible come backs blah blah but will see what we can think of |
