hazlo's sundance yellow GTI

Hi everyone, i've not had a blog on here yet, i used to be over on 106 owners more but its pretty dead these days so i'll copy and paste my blog onto here.

I got the car last year off a local lad who'd lent it to his mate, who had a bump in it causing some light damage to wing, bonnet, headlight and slight damage to inner wing.

Spec:
speedline comp 2s,
kam racing exhaust
Raceland manifold
Raceland enclosed induction
Clifford alarm
Rear beam powerflex mounts
Gearbox powerflex mount
Front wishbone powerflex mount
Anyway it came with a rolling road printout of 131bhp so I guess thats somewhere near right for the spec

Anyway first things first i sorted out the panels and some rust and got it on the road looking like this:

So the car broke down on me a couple of months ago and I had to get a new daily for work. So this then went into the garage while I decided what to do with it.

Anyway, I decided to keep the car and sort it out ready for fcs this year. So out came the engine and box.

This weekend this little bugger will be getting sorted out. And the other side. Also some patches in the boot.

Picked up this the other day after a bit of a drive to birmingham. Its a tu5jp4 engine which has covered just 47,000 miles.

next on the agenda is to refurb the rear beam. I removed that this morning and set about stripping it down. I've got an im axles bearing kit to fit and itll be getting a lick of paint.

Ive twatted my hand too many times with the lump hammer for one day trying to get the bars out. So heres how shea sitting currently.

Good start

Whats the plans?

hazlo 4th February 2014 14:15

Cheers buddy, plans are basically to get the shell rust free. Engine bay resprayed. Then get a decent track / fast road suspension setup and I think ill leave the power mods for this year. I basically want it handling and looking good so I can take it to fcs this year!

Nice car,I like sundance yellow, nice set of vts rims in white would look good.

hazlo 4th February 2014 15:44

Thanks mate. The latest wheels I was running were black 15" speedline chronos but I was thinking of refurbing them in ford gunmetal grey and getting some matching centrecaps with the speedline logo in yellow

Sarcastic? Surley

hazlo 4th February 2014 18:43

Marcus - yeah I did like the comp 2's but always had a thing for chronos so had to get them!

And obviously the car isn't mint, or there wouldn't be a progress thread.

Got the axle stripped down today after much swearing trying to get the torsion bars out and after all the the stub pins are fubar. So new beam tube it is :(

Cheers dude. Its looking rough at the minute but its got to get worse before it gets better. Sorry for the terrible pics by the way!

bobertmate 4th February 2014 21:56

I will own a sundance.

hazlo 4th February 2014 22:13

The only thing I'd swap it for is my old bianca white s2 rallye which I wiah I still owned!

hazlo 6th February 2014 20:04

Got 2 trailing arm bearing kits from imaxles so these will soon be fitted along with new stub pins so will be a fully refurbed beam. Ive messaged imaxles about the pins so hopefully will hear back from them soon.

Right so I dropped the fuel tank off, as any rust what so ever on this car is going to be addressed. There was only a few little patches of surface rust, so I wire wheeled and kurusted them. Followed by a coat of zinc primer. No pics of the zinc yet thatll be friday.
