I think this may summise:

- He has a 106 XN 1.0 that doesnt have a rev counter.
- He has fitted a new instrument cluster from a "better" 106 that has a rev counter.
- When he starts the car it idles at 1k rpm. If he presses the accelerator it then drops the revs to zero.

Sadly thats about all the help I can be, Im not sure where the rev counter takes a feed from and if the car never had a rev counter to begin with if that even has a source for the rev counter to feed from.

Moved to engines for more help

^this

Rev counter feed comes from the ECU. For it to go to 1000 on idle it must be doing something.

this I have

MartinObviously 19th July 2014 00:19

Tachometer is driven direct from the sensor on gearbox :y:

on early petrol models, The ECU only "sees" the signal, it doesn't output to the cluster.

If my memory is correct :P

you have in mind this sensor http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Crank-Sh...aa70cd&vxp=mtr or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/SENSOR-VELOC...tem5ae4de5ae4?

If that sensor was faulty, the car simply wouldn't start. it drives the ignition.

The second sensor, is for your speedometer. Your speedometer is cable drive though yes?

deivis2130 20th July 2014 20:21

No me speedometer is manual not electronic. what you have mind the sensor on gearbox?
Can you take the photo?
