Track Project - Caged Mk1 VTR

So thought I'd start one of these seen as I have today bought another French tin.

Progress will be extremely slow on this as I have a wedding to pay for but after a little football accumulator win at the weekend I looked around on eBay for an extremely cheap project that I could crack on with once the weddings all sorted.

I saw the below for sale very local to my work and made an extremely low offer which I thought would be rejected straight away. To my surprise I got chatting to the owner via text and made arrangements to go and have a look.

Ended up getting it for a steal of a price.

Spec so far is:

Mk1 Saxo VTR
96,000 miles
Sparco Full Roll Cage
Cobra Suzuka buckets with side mounts and extra low subframes
OMP WRC Steering Wheel and Boss
Welded in harness points
Boot catches and bonnet catches
Plated sunroof
Ramair open cone filter
Fan on switch

Future plans:

Sell the seats and buy some I feel a bit more comfortable in
Fit a new exhaust system (probably Supersprint/Kam racing/saxsport)
Get a standard Airbox and aftermarket panel filter
Sort out some aftermarket suspension
Fit some decent tyres
Upper and lower Strut braces
Black Sunstrip and possibly wrap the roof in black to cover the plating

These plans will take some time as obviously saving for a wedding is fookin expensive.

Can't beat a nice MK1! Looks like you have a great base for a track car, shall be keeping my eye on this!

Gandi699 30th September 2014 21:39

16v! Lol

Looks good though, decent stuff already done to it which should save money

Thanks Jigs.

This will not be going down the 16v route, not in my ownership anyway lol. The VTR engines are peanuts if they blow up and very easy to work on. I have a rusty 8v manifold in the shed which might make its way on if I can get it welded up.

Very happy with the base, just will take time as very little money about till after wedding.

You wont have it long, you never do!

Haha Cam, you will be surprised with this one, this ones a keeper.

Quick small update for this, few little bits bought like aerial blank, carbon door cards and upper and lower braces.

Will be jacked up this weekend to hopefully underseal the bottom and to remove the exhaust.

Also need to have a look at the air box situation as it appears a couple of pipes from the inlet seem to plug into the air box.

Same cage i had. Bent very easily. Advise some pillar webbing with that. :)

Thanks for the advice Stew, will look in to it.

So not much has happened with this but I do have a fair few parts waiting to be fitted:

Corbeau Revolution Bucket Seat
Carbon front and rear doorcards with flocked door handle surrounds
106 mirrors and carbon caps
Supersprint 2in exhaust

Same seat as I've got, car looks good, do you not find with the insecure boot homeless people having a soup kitchen?

Haha, no don't find homeless people in the boot as it currently still retains the standard locking latch, and also it hasn't moved from the drive for nearly 6 months and don't get any homeless people down my road.

Fitted the carbon doorcards and mirrors last couple of weeks. Need some more screw for the rear cards hence the gaffa tape.

Got a battery relocation kit on its way. Once it turns up I will get all the cabling mapped out and then get myself a Powervamp battery and bracket. Going to relocate it to the boot I think. Also have a spare wheel strap on the way.
