New VTS - CS02 VTS
Bought a vts off gumtree last week for £200. Its messy to say the least and has a long list of mot failure bits, but its mostly lights and things (as you can see!!!). Looks as if its had a smash, I've got pictures of the car from 2007 when someone bought it and it was clean as!
It'll be getting new brakes and suspension first of all, then to address the oil leak which looks to be the rocker cover. Plan is to get it back to as new standard, then start playing. ![]() Got every mot since new, advisories have been brakes etc but i will address that. Not too sure as to the situation with the plate, guy only had the document to purchase the plates, not the retention cert, but as im the second owner since the plate went in and it hasnt been taken off, where do i stand? The drivers door doesnt open as someone's tried stealing it in the past and failed. ![]() It looks to be unmolested bar the cone filter. Usual rot, but ita cleaner than the vtr underneath! ![]() ![]() Lastly, the car starts and drives but when i unlocked it earlier to get under the bonnet the hazards were flickering as if the alarm was going off, but no siren. Any ideas? ![]() ![]() Either way its worth 200 quid, and if i can sort the plate out, bonus :) Sent from my LG-H440n using Tapatalk |
It needs a new front bumper and panels.
![]() ![]() May need a fair bit of wiring as the mirrors seem to have broken clean off. They're electric but theres no wires where they attach! ![]() God awful show spoiler if anyone wants it? The dimma on the vtr is mine though ;) ![]() ![]() Its been sitting 6 months at least but i think it'll be okay with some tlc, its been paid attention to aesthetically but definitely neglected mechanically. The head is a bit ticky when it warms up, been told it'll be okay with an oil change and run it in slowly to free it up but might be better to take it apart and address it now rather than later. May as well buy a set of cams for it or it'll be a false economy! Sent from my LG-H440n using Tapatalk |
that saxo needs some serious loving
|
I wish you good luck with the project,in all honesty i'd have walked away from it.

Another hopefully saved good on you mate

And love it will get! Scrappies are shut til new year but then il be getting the bits. It looks a lot worse than it is!
I don't like where the number plate sits gonna have a look at moving it back. Need a bootlid if anyone's got one in this colour? Tried getting the spoiler off but had no joy. Not sure how to cut through what it's held on with, tough stuff! Sent from my SM-T330 using Tapatalk |

Might just get a new bootlid not too keen on the smoothed one and the plate is in a dodgy place. How hard is it to dewiper, it looks okay, only reason I tried to take the spoiler off! Sent from my SM-T330 using Tapatalk |
Yeah I would have failed the lights too on that MOT. Exact same when I bought mine which was swiftly changed. Now that spoiler is something else. I'd second the other guys saying about replacing the whole boot, because that piece of shit glued to it is going to rip the paint off anyway. Then how much do you reckon that plate recess fill is going to crack at some point...

looks a bit of a heap but I look forward to seeing what you can do to it! p.s try using fishing line or something similar to get underneath the spoiler and work the glue loose, id imagine its probably something like tigerseal holding it on though so good luck lol

The number plate being there just screams 'pull me' it has to change, might keep the bumper though ☺ Sent from my SM-T330 using Tapatalk |
That spoiler easily adds 50hp!
Pretty sure Prickle was looking for one so may be worth giving him a shout, it's also already the right colour so he'll be hot for it. |
I'm amazed you paid £200 for that!
|
Will be money well spent looks much worse than it is!

Loving the sarcasm mate, always one. I haven't set a time frame for completion just as and when, I'm going to take my time and do it properly, the fact I havent got the workspace or funds to get it done in a single weekend doesn't detract from the end product does it.
Sorry I have a family to spend time with and my saxo isn't my entire life? Dickbag. Also, tapatalk doesn't work on my phone anymore so haven't been able to get pictures up! That said, tablet camera is SHOCKING. So the weather's been shit and been January being tax return deadline time work's been manic for the past oh I don't know, three months? The bumper needed to come off anyway and thought it would be a good chance to get a better look at things, revealing a tad more rust.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ignore the fact I got fucked off with the last bolt being rounded off and ripped it off instead, the wing is dented and kinda rusty anyway. More worried about the bit behind where it screws in? Not sure what it was supposed to be, but it isn't there anymore! Is the rust past the point of being curable? Always be chasing it? With the bumper off, I thought I'd give the fog lights a check over. Probably safe to say they're past it!
![]() I got some arches which are all primered and ready (only have 'before' pics, 'after' to follow). Still need a front bumper, a bootlid and a nearside front quarter if anyone has them? ![]() I saw this, not sure what it was, started to get dark and didn't get to have a proper look. Can someone confirm? ![]() After much, much rain, I found this, and some mouldy seats! My guess would be the sunroof as its both sides, windows seals are ok as far as I know. Car cover over the sunroof! Back seats out, wires out. ![]() ![]() When I get a minute il take the fronts out, and the carpet too as it will need a proper clean. Not sure if I'll put it back in as I think it weighs quite a bit, but I quite like the empty back and usable front half of the car. Who knows, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, all depends on the state of it once it's clean and dried. As said this car is purely for fun so it's not being built to a certain spec which some of you lot frown upon, but this car is not my entire life so just get over it! It will be built eventually and I will enjoy it hopefully more so than the vtr, which will be good enough for me. Buying some brakes next week, which along with a bumper and fresh bulbs all round will fly through the mot. I didn't like the lexus lights, so I took them off and took them apart to see if they looked any better black, just for shits and giggles. I felt confident doing this as I've painted literally about 6 sets of headlights, but glass is a lot more resilient than plastic... ended up cracking one of the lenses right down the middle, but I'm not all that cut up as they were god awful anyway and I'm sure no one else would buy them these days. Haven't attempted to fix the lens, not sure I've got the right stuff to do the job, not to get a seamless finish anyway. Maybe I could smoke the plastic lens to hide the crack once it's glued up. Here they are pre breakage ![]() The middle bottom is just a reflector, think everyone will agree im better off with some standard ones. Standard lens covers might fit, had another set of even worse lexus lights from an old vts and the lenses were interchangeable but are very, very grotty. Sent from my SM-T330 using Tapatalk |

Quick update
Stripped it but still couldnt get drivers door open, any ideas? Everything says push the bracket and ot should pop off, couldnt really get at it to get a decent amount of leverage on it. ![]() Managed to get a fair bit of shit out, anyone need any interior bita give me a shout. ![]() Need some electric mirrors of anyone has any, thought they were in the car but they're chavtastic m3 style ones! Was expecting more rot but rear wings and boot floor are okay! :) ![]() Need to get drivers door open to access everything that side and strip it. Front interior will be next job, particularly mouldy and disgusting... ![]() Sent from my LG-H440n using Tapatalk |
