My first Race in Future classics Mondello Park
 

Bit of a mess up with the safety car but most got there places back,two didn't pass me back so I got a place penalty.
I started 18th on grid as I broke the barrier time in qualifying.

That saxo got some straight line speed!

Unlucky to miss out on the podium but you must be pleased with that considering the penalty?

Sorry but what does that mean 'barrier time'

The barrier time for this class was set at 1:09.0 for Mondello,s national track and 2:09.5 on the international track.
The idea of this is that it makes it affordable and means the guy with the big bank balance cant win every race.
As its future classics the car must be 21 years in production do the Saxo just gets in this year.
That is also the reason for the barrier time, the lap record for a fiat Uno around Mondello is 1:09 so it gives them a fighting chance and generally keeps the racing close and exciting👍

Cheers man it surprised a few lads on the day,it's 145 bhp with a 4,54 FD on the vts box but very light with good stoppers👍

So you're trying to get as close to 1:09 without beating it?

That's it👍I'm using old tyres to help scrub a bit of pace off.
It's a good way of keeping the cost down

Any changes for round 2....apart from some glasses of course! :cool:

😂ha ha deserve that one to be fair,no changes to the car required just need to apply myself a little better.
The car is plenty fast enough so I might run a full tank of fuel to help stay off that barrier time,if I get a good grid placement I'm sure I can bring the little Saxo home in the top spots😄👍

It most certainly looks on pace, I think they'll be some defensive driving going on, when they see the saxo coming through the field this time.

I'll just have to find my way around the outside of them,the Honda and Seat love to hog that inside line🤔

So late update on today's trip to Mondello Park for round 2&3 of Micks Garage Future Classics.
I won't go into all the details as its all on Mondello tv too see,but had a great day and again learnt sooo much.
Race one was a bit crazy ended up 15th after finishing 2nd on track but breaking the time barrier 4 times landed me a 40 second penalty[emoji20]
Race 2 I finished 2nd with no penalties and my first official podium,and even got a few words with Mondello TV[emoji16]

You need a lap counter or something so you can lift off a bit on the pit straight lol

So not just in qualifying it's in the race where they set the lap time as well?
