TU5J4 or TU5JP4
I am building the 106 up from a shell. I was looking at getting a TU5J4 but seem hard to find one so considering a TU5JP4.
First off is any one selling a TU5J4 in the northwest? loads of TU5JP4 going so should I just do that, Any thoughts? Witch would be more reliable and any pros or cons of both. |
I have two spare J4's, depends what state/condition you want them in....
The JP4 had bigger valves, If i remember right. Yet milder cams. I think the inlet manifold was also different, not in a good way. I'm scratching my head, but a hybrid of the JP4 with J4 cams & inlet was a slightly worthy upgrade in the day. Although I think the inlet manifold needed to be re-drilled to the head. Depends on what you building I guess, which one suits budget/application/quality etc. |
Hi. Is the jp4 the later motor with black plastic cam covers and j4 the Saxo vts motor?
|
Yep thats right. Youll need to swap the sump, some sensors, and inlet manifold to the jp4 to use in a Saxo. Youll need to drill and tap some holes in the head to fit the j4 inlet, but its nothing difficult.

and refit vts cams -not jp4 cams
although to be fair the 110bhp jp4 makes is at 1000rpm less than the vts makes its 120 --so more mid range torque an at same rpm vts makes less power so in driving it may actually feel quicker with std gearing remember "torque turns wheels --bhp sells engines" |
