saxo vts playing up

Hi Guys
I have a 2003 saxo vts with has been a pain in the ass for the last 2 months. I have not had time to sort it out yet but would like to know what you guys think is wrong with it.

1. Right first one is that engine is not ideling well and some times cuts out and stalls. i know this is the icv or stepper motor. but could anyone tell me were it is.

2. Every time i start my car the clocks reset themself like the battery has gone flat but it starts fine most of the time. or it turns over for about 10 seconds then strats. when this happens the rev counter does not move even tho the engine is running, then it will start to work.

3. Fuel gage is not working was working last night but has got stuck at the top of the red.

Any help with any of these will be good as it is doing my head in. rep will be given if you help me.

Thanks
James

1. Check that the air filter is not blocked or too dirty to clean the air effectively. Inspect the inlet manifold gasket and ensure that it does not have a vacuum leak of any kind. Also check all the associated vacuum hoses for general condition, splits and security of the clips. Remove and check the spark plugs, ensuring that they are in good condition and that they are correct for the vehicle. Re-gap and clean if necessary.

2. The starter motor may be on its way out, if all the other systems are found to be serviceable. Starter motors are rarely stripped down nowadays, but it is worthwhile getting it checked by a professional before replacement.

ive driven my cousins vts. his had the same problem with idling, its quite likely to be:

throttle body
blocked injectors
airflow sensor
coil pack
possibly ecu fault

good luck

I have seen this before on another car and it turned out to be the voltage regulator. I would get it checked out at a garage though. Most places dont charge for haveing a look and giveing you a quote for the work.
