Which Slr?

I'm going to purchase one in the coming weeks as I want to get into photography a little more.

I'm not bothered about buying second hand etc as I'm just starting. I would spend about £250-350 on my first one and if needed upgrade eventually.

Are there any reccomendations on what to get? I know the canon's are good and everyone seems to use them, but I've also been told nikon are quite good too.

Any advice.

cant really go wrong with canon or nikon mate, if you buy slightly older technology you may get more for your money for instance rather than getting a new 350d which has been made so it can be sold at about £350, if you were to get a second hand 20d they have been made to retail at £850 when they first came out so the build quality is much better etc

Try and find a Nikon D50 mate, thats what i use, they were like £600 new i think but you can get them for your budget now, will do everything most photographers want aswell! :y:

Cheers guys, I'm searching all over at the moment, I'll keep my eye out for the ones you've mentioned.

I'd be willing to think about offering you my SLR if you was interested?

It's the Canon EOS 350D with a Canon 18-55 + Canon 55-200 Lense + 1GB Memory, and carry case.

I'd be looking for about £400?

It's had about 2 hours of use since I got it, and I just don't see my self getting much use out of it. Let me know what you think. :)

PS - It has over 4 years of Currys warrenty Left, which I've been told can be transfered over.

the nikon d50 is an alright camera but body is a little plasticy have a look at the canon 10D, 20D or nikon d70 as the build quality is better

The d50 is a sound camera, who cares about how plasticy it feels, its what the pics are like that matters and it has features of camera's which are more expensive..;)

not really, the d50 is missing alot of options irc..

the build quality of the camera is very important, id rather have a nice solid feel of my 30d than a cheap peice of plastic in my hand.. espec as cameras do take a battering over the years of use.

exactly mate, if you are shedding out a good few hundred quid i would want something that felt nice and strong (magnesium body) to justify the amount of money. thats why if you get a slightly older model higher spec camera the build quality will be better than than of a budget / entry level new camera.
dont get me wrong you can get good pictures with a 350d and d50, but i use my camera daily at uni and so i want something that will last

My first choice would be a canon as I know most of you guys use them and never seem to fault them. I'll have to shop about and find some good deals, by what I've heard I'd be better getting a 2nd hand 20d than pay for a new 350d?
