argh my gearbox is absolutely had it i think, every gear crunches and 3rd and reverse are especially difficult to engage.

im thinkihng about replacing the gearbox and the linkages as well as the lutch my self but how is this all best left to a professional or can a novice like me do it?

how easy is it replace these parts and rougly how much price wise any help wud be appreciated.

all depends on what needs to be done mate... i wouldnt try it yourself if you aint done anything like that before.

ive been driving on it like this for a while, kinda hopin it wud go away but i no its only gona get worse, well each time i change gear its not smooth its notchy, very nothcy awful to be honest lol and lately its not always goin into gear at all. its done 87 000 miles i dont think its had the clutch replaced, but the thing is i think because i have been driving on it with the clutch needing replacement its damaged the gearbox because its so awful when u go into each gear like i said its very notchy n crunches :S it started playing up at about 81 000, but if its going to be quite expensive i may have to look for a new car, as i need one for work and neeeds to be up to scratch you know kinda thing...

if you replace the clutch, release bearing and clutch arm..(what i call it..release bearing slides on it,lol) and the gear linkages the parts shouldnt be to bad......fitting wouldnt be major for those items

Ive just had my gearbox reconditioned mate. I removed it myself, sent it to a place that reconditioned it for me, then refitted it myself. Also replaced the full clutch. Where abouts are you situated?!

Erm, it depends how competent you are with a car!? My dad is pretty good tbh, so he helped. Put it this way, i saved myself around 300 quid in labour costs at a garage by removing it myself!

hmm thats wat i was thinking, id like to attempt it myself, but im not exactly mechanic material dnt get me wrong i can service my car but anything like a timing belt ive never done. so u recon i shudtake it to a garage or u think its probably cheaper if i just buy another saxo lol

It purely depends on how long you intend on keeping the saxo!? It can be quite tricky taking it out yourself, make sure you use the haynes manual, and make sure you have a trolley jack and stuff like that. I strongly recommend 2 people doing it aswell!

Yeah if you're fairly competent it shouldn't be that bad.
I'd check all the seals on the gearbox before you put it back together though.
Bought mine with a new clutch, to find the seal in the box gone and the clutch sopping wet 3 weeks down the line.
Ouch!

its common sense mechanics. aslong as you lable bolts and parts so you know where they go you will be fine. someone on here is doing it now pm him.
