Your guide to removing the door pins looks like a top idea and a whole lot cheaper than getting deadlocks fitted like I was planning to.

One question though ..... my mate is adament that this is illegal and my car won't get through it's MOT.
Something to do with the fire brigade being able to unlock your doors if you're involved in an accident??

Anybody got any ideas on this ......

Cheers

Door pins are nothing to do with an MOT (IMHO)

Your point about the fire brigade in the event of an accident is a fair comment... BUT it would only be an issue if, for some reason, your doors became locked during the accident. (possible)

At the end of the day, whether you make this mod or not is solely down to you... if you're worried about the safety aspects, consider chopping the pins in half.

You will then have the security benefits, and also be able to pull the pins up manually if you needed to.

If the door is locked and you open the door from inside.. does the door remain locked? (I've not had pind for years so cant remember)

I am being serious when I say your Saxo can be entered in approx 5 seconds if you leabve the door pins as standard.

You could also consider deadbolts... check out this article

Cheers for the info.

Just been down to Halfords to get the socket bit,
going to have a go at it tonight........

when you have removed the pins how do you get rid of the hole?

robby 20th August 2004 14:20

Haven't had a chance to do it yet.
Definitely going to do it at the weekend.

I've bought some rubber grommets from Halfords so I'm hoping one of the sizes will fit. I don't really fancy trying anything too technical.

yup you can get a small bag of 9 and 13mm grommets from halfords one of them fits really well and i just gave it a spot of super glue to hold them in

Russ 20th August 2004 17:46

How about sticking in some dummy pins - then you
don't have to fit in a gromit. (Surey they look a little
naff in relation to the plastic.)

they arent to bad, but one of the main ideas with removing the door pins is the fact that they are not there and a thief can then see that, its more of a visual deterent. I mean if i was a thief and there are two saxos one with door pins and one without i know which one i would target...

saxual_Jon 20th August 2004 19:05

surely if u put dummy pins in the thief is gonna think that saxos open and try and break in either way

Nah, theives are pretty stupid animals, they dont know much other than to steal cars and then try to b the best driver in the world, then they will tend to crash the car, theives are so think they cannot think like we normal people can
