The middle parts on the axle are what hold it to the chassis, and these will have bushes. The outter parts are the trailling arms, and these are where the bearings are also held, at the ends of the axle... If the axle is badly damaged, even replacing the bearings won't stop the fact that the arms could be attached, yet sit all wrong. Does that help mate?
