Default Fronting....my opinion on it!

Apologies for the long post but worth a read....

Hello

I have seen a lot of threads on here recently where people are happy to admit that they have insured thier car in a parents (or older persons) name as the policyholder and put themselves on as the additonal driver.

In almost all circumstances this is illegal!
You will likely get away with it until you have to make a claim and thats where the issue begin...First off, someone from the insurance company will look at your claim and see a 50 year old policyholder and his 17 year old son as the named driver.....ALARM bells much!

Basically, fronting is illegal unless...

1. You actually are just an additional (casual) driver and the policyholder does drive it more than you do. Lets face it, how many self respecting parents are driving a saxo VTR as thier main car?

2. When you took out the premium, you were asked 'Who is the main driver of the vehicle' and you changed the answer from the default (policyholder - your dad etc) to the additional driver (you). This would likely increase the premium to the same as if you took out the policy in your own name however.

You may think you can get away with it and you probably will if you don't need to claim but is it worth the risk?

Picture this....you rear end a 50k merc and the claims person from the insurance company checks over your claim and decides you are in fact the main driver so voids the policy.
Who is now going to have to foot the bill for the merc you just crashed into.....ummmm probably you!!

I know you can save a massive amount by fronting but its simply not worthit
I also know how expensive insurance is for a 17 year old, even on a 1.1 but if you cant afford it then you shouldnt be driving!

We were all 17 once and we all paid a shit load for our first policy and years down the line with lots of no claims under our belts, insurance is much cheaper.

At 17 you are a massive risk to insurance companies, you are inexperienced and driving a saxo which is probably thier biggest claim....why should they give you a cheap premium??
Its all about the risk

Why do you think insurance is soooo expensive these days, not just for 17 year olds but for everybody....maybe because people were fronting and the insurance companies had to foot the bill...maybe due to fake injury claims.....maybe due to uninsured drivers!!

By you fronting, you are actually making it worse for other people and generations to come meaning everyone has to pay more for thier insurance

If you cant afford to get insured legally then dont drive for fuck sake!!!

Just my 2p worth
