i didn't have legal over when i was 17 as it saved me 100 notes. A smack head on a push Bike came through a red light and smashed into me. He tried to sue me for damages for his bike and loss of earnings "couldn't walk to collect job seekers". I had to pay all legal costs and the cost of my legal team in the end it cost me just short of 2k. So IMO well worth it as when you have it you just post everything to your insurance and they sort it without you spend days on the phone and pay out of your arse for legal representation.
its ok saying you can recover the costs but if the person who has no assets to claim against i.e.... doesn't own the car and has no job and house. you have nothing to claim against so you are left high and dry and out of pocket.
