If I remember rightly this rule only applies if the workforce has been notified of redundancies and they are in the consultation period?

I'm sure thats what we were informed by our union in a job I had quite a few years back, but the rules may have changed again

An old workmate of mine just got other workmates to cover for her, to come in on their time off to cover for her and work were fine with it as long as the job was getting done they didn't ask the reason why usually, but he could always say that its family/home trouble or something?

Or if he's that desperate see if they have an unpaid leave policy and he could take the day off unpaid, I've known places to allow that also
