Sounds more like you were told your bill was low, made a phone call taking yes its correct as gospel and sufficient grounds to cover you if anything happened, and thought yay you're quids in here now paying next to nothing for gas and electric.

Not at all. I've personally never paid a gas or electricity bill up until now. As I said above, I’m no gas or electricity provider, nor do I have any experience in the field, who am I to argue with British Gas?
If British Gas tell me that, even after I contacted them, a small bill per month is correct, then as far as I'm concerned, it's correct. I am unaware of what other people are paying, and as such, didn't realise that a small bill is unrealistic.
That's my position on the situation, and it won't change. I won't be taking responsibility for an error made by British Gas.
