some one pm,ed me and asked me to comment on the posts--when i stop laughing at the lack of physics knowledge --i might .
yes it works -- of course an alternator takes power to make electrical power --,no it does not totally disconnect the alternator thats why the power streering keeps going --it allows enough current to pass to stop any damage to alternaotr controller (1/2amp)- no battery won,t go flat cos it has safety circuits which will not allow it to work if battery violtage is too low .
I know of no std car that does this.--please tell me which car it is--exact model please
power saved will depend on state of battery charge of car at time and total elctrical load required by car at time of operation --so it works better at night on a cold wet day as you will heated rear screen ,fan blower ,wiprers and of course your big ice amp taking power.
proven to work on SAC dyno -- saving up to 11bhp on my xantia diesel -with all electrics turned on,uusual saving will be closer to 4-5 bhp at most times--it is called fre pwr because it frees up normally lost power when you want it most --on acceleration.
as for comment about you can turn aan alternaotr by hane --that is because when you do not "excite the field coils you have no magnetic field --please refer to text book on how and alternator works .
if it didn,t wotk --why is one of the things that is always written in race regs for modifed sallons --charging system must work --cos it saves power by not having one
