On my VTS the revs drop much more slowly - to the point that it's quite easy to end up with a little rise in revs between gears if you don't remember to lift off the throttle first.

Do others find this with their cars? Is it a deliberate thing or maybe a difference in intakes?

I find that on most modern cars, the revs are slowly lowered, I've always thought it is to help 'lazy' drivers that don't have any interest in trying to change gear smoothly, but that wouldn't explain it in terms of my VTS which is 18 years old
Revs drop slow in modern cars to help with emissions. it's electronically programmed to do that.

a VTS is not, it sounds like you might have a slight air leak somewhere or a sticking ICV.
