pistons for 1720cc vtr
hiya all i have just acuired a vtr block that has been bored out to 1720cc i was wondering if eny one has eny idea what pistons would fit without having to go for specially made ones i am looking at running this with a big valve head ported an polished with newman ph 3s i just want to get it running and see what it goes like before spending mega money on it
ive already got the head so that expence is spaired just need pistons en help eould be great

Edit sorry read it wrong. I cant think of any engine off hand that uses 81.7mm pistons. Though I know a few people have used Rover pistons in large bore TU engines in the past. They have to use modified conrods to fit though. If you search for this you may get lucky.

thanks matey i am going down to my local engineering firm that do alot with classic cars he said on the phone theres a chance that ford crossflow pistons will fit so thanks for your help an i will have a look thrue sum rover engines an c what else can be found cheers matey

There is a company called Drake's in Bradford which should be able to machine you some.
They sorted my friend's Mini out when he had that overbored.

ive been given a warrenty with this block although i have herd that they have sucsessfully been taken to 1780cc i have got to admit i was a bit sceptical at first all i say is its gotta be worth a try thats why im trying to do the pistons on a budget

will gat a pick asap i dont alwase have acsess to computer only when i go to my dads it dont look to thin an as i say i got warrenty i want to build it cheep to start then maby go for accralite pistons after

probably not the best idea....I would rather spend a bit more and have it last rather than buy cheap and have to do it more than once.

im using this as a winter project an being out of work atmo means i cant afford to spend money i already have the head an cams also ecu my missus has said that if i contact bogg brouthers then she will pay for a custom manifold to fit a set of gsxr 1100 carbs if all goes to plan then it should bu somthing intresting in the futur

there are much cheaper and better set ups then bogg brothers, and you want bodies not carbs

You won't stroke to a genuine 1790cc without being over bored also.
I very much doubt you have near on 82mm pistons fitted also. Have you measured the block yet?
