looking at the figures the sub will be underpowered?

Sub:

- 350watts rms @ 4 ohms

Amp:

225watts rms @ 4 ohms

looks good on that video, am running 350rms from a alpine amp so a spl dynamics sub not much shaking lol but does sound good, had a JBL sub too a 1202d not bad either

just get a second hand amp off ebay i got mines 350rms for £55

the only way you will get a good setup is look at your budget, your amp will cost 3/4's of your total budget! so if you want to spend £250 look for an amp for about £150-£180 then find a sub that will run around your amp. packages are good because they are designed to work. they cut the whole looking for parts that match. imo an underpowered sub is better because ther is lees chance of blowing it!

i get told always have a more power amp than the subwoofer. i use a 1300watt 2 channel mono amp to power to vibe 1200watt slick subwoofers they both sound great as i am powering both subs with 1300watt,

your sub will be under powered but its better to be safe because it may distort and pop

eventually ive done that many of times

Decent speakers can handle a lot more power than they are rated at. My components are only rated at 40wrms and i am running them of a rated 90wrms from my amp. As long as the signal is clean (distortion free), and the gains are set correctly then you will be quite unlucky to damage your speakers by overpowing them as you will have to do so by a lot of power.

You can also damage a speaker by underpowering them.

ive got a 1200wrms amp & sub set up which cost me £180

, its all about where you look. and your wrong, as alex said in my quote below if set up properly the speakers will be fine, coonper ran a shitty set of 6x9s rated at 90wrms with 600wrms and they didnt blow! oh and in your statement of budgets, you forgot to include a box and wires

few points:

1, youll need a box, i didnt reccomend a prefab box as theyre awful, ideally you should leave this stuff boxed up in your room while you save for a custopm built box, remember a box is more important than the sub

2, yes it is much more than the 400wrms you wanted, allthough i dont understand why you want a set rms wattage, and also, if its too bassy, you can turn the gain down (this will reduce the bass output, and wont damage your sub before any noob says it)

Lol, you cant damage speakers by 'underpowering' them, what do you think the volume knob does?...... reduces the power sent to the driver!

Damaging speakers by simply using a lower power amp only ever happens when the gains are set incorrectly causing clipping, the same will happen with a higher power amp.

thats what he meant by underpowering lol.. as in an amp with less rms than the sub

regardless of what power amp you have, failure to set the gain correctly and you have a melted VC on your hands

Dont follow what you mean but using an amp with a lower rms power output than the subs rms rating still wont damage it.
