Long grass to me is defined as something that looks untidy. Really long grass is something that looks untidy and is harder to cut (for my weedy Flymo).
I'm sorry our definitions differ. You're clearly the man to come to when I have some sort of garden wide horticultural crisis.

What do you do for a living? Why do you think you're qualified to wrongly dictate how grass should be cut.
Also you seem surprisingly smug about having a Flymo. Did you get it from B&Q?
Fancy a race against my Countax?

We've cut our grass twice this year.
I can confirm that it's currently like the Amazon fucking Rainforest out there.

I find it very funny that EVERYONE that has tried to insult me in here has no idea about gardening nor do they do it as a profession.
You want to tell me what a 1/3 rule is with a garden viper? Or you just looking to try and troll me? To be honest i dont really care because at no point in this thread have i got annoyed or upset as so many of your have aclaimed i am - if i was, id be long gone from here, its mearly an discussion from people who think they know better when there completly incompetant.
Grass does not consistantly grow back forever, the more you cut it, the more harm you actually do, may look "nicer" until you cut it the next week, as so many of you say you do, but in about 10 years, there wont be much left of it if you dont actually treat it right, this is why we use a 6-8 cut a year rule, grass does not need cut every week, 2-3 weeks dosent make it look shabby atall, if you leave it to grow a little longer, the grass comes out looking allot better than if you cut it when it was short.
Many people in this thread write as if they mow their grass in winter, and the frosty seasons, i highly doubt ANY of you do, because thats being retarded, there is no point in cutting grass in the winter because growth is reduced too much for it to need be cut. whereas in the summer, its totally opposite, where grass grows at a steady rate and gets burnt - so what is the need for all these people flaming me for saying what a professional buisness with a major contract is wrong?
Really couldnt care, but that should make sense and that clears up my side.
p.s smiith, theres NO equipment for gardening that could cut grass down to 1" without taking your turf off, so i call your bullshit.
my last response to this thread - enjoy guys, ill just read what abuse you'll flow at me.

Actually everyone has said they don't cut it in the winter. So you're clearly not reading properly.

Funny how he says you leave it longer, and it will look better.. Let it get shin high, cut it, and you have a yellow lawn..

Surely people just want their grass kept looking 'nice', and in the summer that means cutting it once a week. Even the first thing that comes up on google, rolawn, a huge company that agrees, and i quote
Quote:
Mow the grass as often as it needs it throughout the year. Your lawn will grow at different rates as the temperature changes, after you fertilise or water, and so on. If you are mowing properly you should not see much clippings on the turf. You cannot damage your turf by mowing it every day or even twice a day.

You what son?
Cut my grass every 6 weeks, Go over it with the Tower of power ride on mower to get the lines and circle around the trees. Then go around the edge with a Flymo.
I'll get a picture at some point.. Alan Titchmarsh would suck my piece if he saw it.
I have a sad life.
