Being anything you like (car wise) dude. Speak to josh - he has a Facebook group setup for our first trip of the year. I'll be in my 106 obviously but last year all sorts turned up - it's good to go as a group, regardless of what you're driving!

I'll be trying to make it to the Ring trip nest year so long as I have a car of any kind! Rather looking forward to it!
Anyways, back on subject.
Thought this would be the easiest way of keeping you posted on how I'm getting on with the loom
I've had Josh's body wiring loom out of his car to simplify and tidy up.
Although I have already assesed the loom and ordered some supplies for the bulk of the work, which are yet to arrive. I got to spend some time on it today.
I started by pulling the interior fusebox apart so I could see how everything is connected inside.

Laid the loom out in the workshop, as it would be laid in the car

Then started from the rear of the car removing all wiring which is no longer used, like tailgate and rear speaker wiring, along with relocating the number plate light take off.

This is the wire removed so far

I'll be attacking this as soon as the parts arrive

Hope you like?
Not very interesting at the moment, but still progress

How much weight is there to be lost in this?

Is it just to simplify things or is it being done with weight in mind too?

I'd imagine with a nice plush interior still in it is purely a nice cosmetic and simplifying goal.

A small update, now I've had pretty much all the parts arrive I can finally get on with more of the loom.
I've still decided to avoid the birds nest of wiring including the mini fuseboxes until in the week and my brothers about for a second pair of eyes.
Still managed to remove a lot more wiring like the standard immobiliser system and diagnostic plug.

Also properly relocated the window switch wiring to the colunm covers, where the switches are
(They had already been previously cut, thus the soldered connectors on some wires)

Next up removed the original Maxi fuesbox and replaced it with the new item which will be clipped to the new mini fusebox when its fitted and mounted into a custom bracket, but thats all still to come

Next up, just tidied things up a little so I could keep track of the shape of the loom, once done it will be properly taped up and tidied.

Was weighing up doing the loom entirely in heat shrink, but as this is using prdominately oe connectors, it'd be a lot of work to do, also it'll be safely under a carpet, so I think tape will be more than good enough.
Hope you're happy with the progress.
Just noticed I really need to tidy your radio wiring, what radio do you have?
As the loom, supplies and tools are now at home I'll be doing it in evenings in the week.
Still looking into the other things we discussed

I pulled out 11kgs of loom when we went omex and redid the fuse boxes. There's mega amounts of weight to be shed in wiring.

Good work Beanie.

I've already removed a certain amount of wiring Ross, but if we can get anywhere close to a 5kg saving that would be awesome

Agreed Willsy, I find the best way to keep it tidy is to make sure I spend 5-10 minutes sweeping up & tidying up after each session I spend working on it, so that way everytime I leave the unit its nice and tidy for the next time that I go to work on it

Its a really nice place to be / work now. Even over christmas / new year I just shut the door and put the little heater on and it keeps it nice and warm in there

Yep the garage is an awesome place to store my cars & work on them, knowing its dry and out of the frost over the winter is so much better than storing it outside

Well for this year the improvements are;

-Tidying up the interior loom
-Fitting a more friendly clutch
-Housing & fitting the SPA dials

In the short term (next year or so) further improvements will be to get Matt Newton to tidy up and open up the scuttle area to allow more air to easily enter the throttle bodies. Potentially more weight saving bits and bobs here and there to hopefully get me to the magic 800kgs with half a tank of fuel. Also I may have to look at upgrading the MA box to a BE box & BE shafts should be MA box give up the ghost. My current MA box has been cygenically strengthened so im hoping that helps it last a bit longer but im wise enough to know we are really pushing the boundaries of the box so we will see how we go... its covered over 1,000 miles so far with no issues

In the long term (over a year) id be potentially looking to widetrack it with a Colin Satchell kit & looking at getting more weight off the chassis again

Carpet & other comfort bits will stay, seeing as its not a full out race car its essential for me to keep some creature comforts so the cars enjoyable to jump into on a nice summer day and enjoy driving

As Ross says, drop me a PM with your facebook details and ill add you to our group. Alot of people that come with us arent regulars on sax-p anymore so its easier to organise it on facebook, anyone on the forum is more than welcome to come on our trip - I love introducing new people to our group - it keeps things fresh in the group.

Both Joe. The main aim of this was to tidy up the whole interior loom so that I know the wiring throughout the car is perfect, and obviously saving a few kg is always nice - although if its anywhere near the 11kg that Ross saved that would be VERY nice

love the future plans especially the mention of widetrack and colin satchell thats gunna be awesome.

the freeze treatment on the internals of your box should definately help with the boxes life expectancy mate 100%.

i cant wait to see beanies finished product on the loom too . i also understand the need for your creature comforts too man. your a fairy boy and you must keep your wings .

if you shed your fairy wings... 800kg would be a few kg closer .

all in all i have alot of love for this car. its a genuine home build that does get used and abused therefore i have far more appreciation for it. plus iv got to help along the way

Cheers mate

Widetrack is a bit of a dream right now but let's see how things go over the next year, I need to get it done before the mrs finishes Uni because she will be wanting to buy a house, and then it might be more difficult to treat the Saxo to new goodies lol

Removing the carpet would save what 5kg? I'd much rather have the comfort of the carpet and find somewhere else to save 5kg instead tbh mate
