Whats you advice? I know there is no set time or numbers to cut to.

I keep my grass about 2 to 3 inches in length, its not used for putting or playing bowls on Cant remember exactly, i avoid scalping it to avoid sun damage and even more moss growth. Not sure if thats correct though.

It all depends on how serious you are about keeping your lawn neat and tidy,I myself just prefer to keep it tidy and don't really worry about it being in tip top condition.

If you're worried about moss you could try feeding it to reduce the moss, improve drainage and give it a light rake every so often(grooming)......

As for the rate of cut its as much as you like,in an ideal world you don't want to take anymore than 1/3 off the grass leaf when you cut,so get to the height you want and stay at that height and cut once a week.......

We cut pretty much as much as we can,but during the winter when the weather is as shit as this we can't really get out on the machines so it doesn't get done as much as we'd like to.

Just read through the thread.....

The stripes you see are caused by the nap of the grass and the light reflecting off it.....

Grass rolled away from you will be light and vice versa.......as has been said a roller will give you this but when you cut with a rotary mower you still get this but not as distinct.
