About to find out...
I found this forum, whilst looking for objective opinion. So far, I've had an axle from Axle Direct, which didn't make 10K miles before going the same way as the one it replaced.
I've (hopefully) jumped through all the hoops to claim the advertised warranty from AD and sent of a wad of required documentation with photographs etc.
For any ones interest on making a claim, take a look at this http://www.axledirect.com/claimform/
My experience talking to them on the phone was... well, one of amazement, sadly not in a good way.
Any which way, I'll report back on what happens, and if no joy, then I'll report the comparison with IM, which I expect, would be my next port of call.

Update and small print
Quick update: Having provided enough compelling eveidence, that the axle had indeed failed in the way described, and 5 phone calls later, I understand that the warranty will be honoured.
I have also learned that the AD warranty is RTB (return to base), no sending out a replacement on exchange, oh no! If my understanding is correct, this also means that I will have to arrange the return to base...
I've now called IM, (took a while to get through) and have been quoted £25 more than AD for the same deal, however, they do offer an exchange on warranty claims, unlike AD's RTB. Also have to say, IM very curtious by phone, encouraging after AD.
As the old adage goes, You get what you pay for!

Even IM axles do not have a good reputation nowdays. Which is annoying as I thought they would be the people I'd go to when i need an axle (which is soon).

I got an axle from IM axles & it was decent but I still would not recommend the company. I supplied them with Coilovers & full powerflex bushes to fit on the car & said I'd pay the extra for them to fit them as well as a new axle. They said it would not be a problem. The place is a shithole tbh. Pot holes everywhere....like a farm yard. I returned to my car after few hours & the front was about 3 ft higher off the ground because they fitted them incorrectly. It looked horrendous & he tried passing me the keys! I said I'm not driving that away & me & my mate who was with me waited around for ages whilst they scratched heads. We ended up looking on the Internet upstairs in their place as to how to fit them but I conveniently found the 4 bushes to my rear axle upstairs on the floor in there. I put them in my pocket & said nothing & eventually....& I mean eventually (hours) the car was correct so I drove it home for realignment & that was that. The axles supplied are good, no dought but the business is rogue 100% & I'd never give them money again.

IM axles do supply a tidy refurbished axle and I've not had any issues with one so far but the one thing I would knock is the quality of the bearing kits used, the bearings themselves seem to do the job but the rubber seals seem to deteriorate rather quickly I had one on my car for under 2 years and the rubber seals were visibly starting to crack.

I have good experience on this Finnish dealer for repaired Citroën rear axles:
The pages are only in Finnish but you should be able to drill down to Saxo and find the pics and prices. English is commonly understood in Finland so emailing them should be no issue.
They've fitted a Berlingo axle for me. No problems.
I have no other relation to the shop than being a satisfied customer.

Stefan is the man to go to.
Or up here we use omanmechanicalsolutions. Lifetime guarantee on their axles.
Their site was down a wee while ago but I think it's back up now http://www.oms.scot/

As Joe has said above - Stefan Golesworthy on Facebook is the man to do axles. No cheap parts used.
