Question Rear Door Won’t Unlock & failed MOT

Hey all, I’m a new member, but I really hope someone can help with this as I’ve searched high and low for answer and couldn’t find one, even the garage, who carried out the MOT and failed it, weren’t sure exactly what the problem was either. The irony of it all is I rarely use the rear doors/back seats so didn’t even think to check before it went in for its MOT.

Car Details:
Saxo 1.1 Forte 2000 5 door

Problem:
As the title says, the driver’s side rear door won’t unlock. When you pull the lock, it moves a little bit, but doesn’t fully unlock. The handle works OK so I don’t think it’s that and points to something to do with the locking mechanism.

One thing I notice, on top of the door card, towards the rear, there’s a little plastic viewing window thingy, on the side that works (n/s), I’d say 4/5ths are red, but on the side that doesn’t open (o/s), it’s all red. I’m at a complete loss as to what this is and whether it’s anything to do with the problem, I’ve also included some photos which might try and help explain.

Rear o/s door lock button thingy

Plastic o/s viewing window?

Plastic n/s viewing window?

Plastic o/s viewing window - not fully red?

Thanks in advance

cronky.

Can't help you.

BUT I have the same problem. Same door.

Only thing I can think of it to get a replacement inner door panel, then cut away the original panel and having gained access to the 'works', fix it and put on the replacement panel once I am sure the problem is fixed.

Dave.
