Default Water Damage Blackberry

Dropped my Blackberry Torch 8960 onto my chest in the bath, must of been less than an inch of water, was there for a millisecond. Took the battery out, dried it with a towel.

Got out, dried it at a good distance with a hair-dryer for a few minutes but then put the battery back in, and it was working fine. Until it went off 20 mins later and won't come back on. I've read that you shouldn't do this as if there is any moisture left in it and you turn it on, it can damage the circuits etc?

I've now got it ontop of the kitchen cupboard in a freezer bag, battery out, with a silica gel packet on it. Hope to god it works.

But really, the question is, what sort of damage could I have done turning it on with moisture still inside it?

James

Not sure about damage but put it in a bowl of rice (not cooked obviously!) in a warm place and leave it for a couple of days

I was using the the torch on my iphone not too long ago, and some friends were chatting on whatsapp, long story short I'd balanced my phone on the cupboard and it vibrated itself into the dogs water bowl, was there for a good ten seconds as I was switching the electric back on at the time... I turned it off quickly then let it thaw, turned it back on and the speaker was buggered, turned it off again got it red hot next to a fan heater and it was fine afterwards. In the past I had a nokia n95 that I dropped into a puddle and didn't realise, that turned itself off and was fine after a few hours on the heater in the van. And an O2 ice that I dropped down the toilet, that buggered up the camera.. That's about all the damage water has ever done to any of my phones, perhaps I've just been lucky though

Chances are you have done damage to the main board. When that happens you are best off getting a new phone.

Shit happens!

The good news is the Silica gel / freezer bag / kitchen cupboard combination worked, phones working perfectly.

Did exactly the same as you, i took it to a phone repair shop and they said it fried the motherboard within the phone rendering the phone pretty much worthless, so i got an iPhone!

You can put it in a bowl of rice, however if its still in warrantee or for some reason you have to send it to blackberry, your f****d because theres a white tab within the phone. When that tab touches moisture it turns red, therefore if anyone from blackberry sees that, they won't touch your phone end of. Unless you have some sort of water damage coverage.

I'm not sure if he left it in a bowl of rice for a year and a half or bought a new phone.

I thought this was an 8 year bump when I saw Blackberry in the title!

Rice FTW!
