Cam Help !
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/fra.../kent-cams.htm
just doing some pricing up to see what i can afford when i come to upgrade my cams in the near future... just wondered what the difference was in the cams on the page in the link ?
the technical data means absolutely nothing to me, but the prices range from £600 to £150, i assume the more expensive been the best !
if anyone could break it down for me in simple terms that would be great, and perhaps some rep
cheers !
btw, i have a pipercross viper, and a straight through 3" pipe (de-cat), will soon be getting a raceland manifold... what sort of power gains do you think i would get with the cams and a remap ?

I'm no expert but I know the £150 cams are usually reprofiles of the original cams and only offer mild power gains.
The prices on that site dont seeem to bad but they are on an exchange basis.
A lad on SSC made 154 BHP with the following setup:
Catcams 708
Greens Forced Induction
4 - 1 Manifold
Powerflow Exhaust & De-cat
Chipwizards Remap
Not a definitive answer in any shape or form but abit of info for you
Catcams are around the £350 mark, I have heard good things about them and thats what I'm saving up for next.

the general cam upgrade is pt51, piper 285's or cat cams 708. there all pretty similar but cats produce a little less torque and are cheaper.
a lower cam and it wont be worth having done, a wilder cam theres more changes to be made so one of these and a remap should see 155 brake

nope. its all down to the cam timing.
mine were lumpy as fuck when i first fitted them then i had to take them back out because of an oil seal leak, timed them up again after refitting (inlet - retarded, exhaust - advanced) and it idles perfectly, on standard map.

wicked, 708's it is then !
my mate has just converted his cooper S into a cooper S "works" and said part of the conversion was an uprated pulley.. this means nothing to me, but they sell them on that site with the cams.. is it a worthwhile upgrade ?
thanks !

i dont know a great deal about pulleys but if you have the money I'd whack one on the shopping list.
I'm sure the technical experts will fill you in on the benefits of pulleys.
I look forward to seeing the results.
There was talk of getting a group biy together for some cams in a recent thread so It might be wise to wait and see how that pans out?

dont bother with pulleys mate or competition belt, waste of money.
vts have adjustable vernier pulleys anyway.
call QEP on 01444243720 for the cams. these are the only dealers for catcams in the country.

defo cambelt. verniers are not critical as the standards are vernier anyway.

why use competition cambelt?
the standard is more than up to the job so why spent more than double the amount on something you dont need?

Take the cambelt cover off and you can see some nice shiny verniers! Thats why I suggested it.

Bloody hell Easty, what BHP you want to be running from that thing? Haha.
I know most people don't recommend chips, but don't you fancy one? I know a guy whos running 150BHP VTS with Scorpion full decat system, High lift cams (think that's correct) and performance chip.
