What I cant get my head around was if that was standard on a rallye engine (s2 in this case), did they all do that from new? If so thats fucking shoddy for the sake of moving the sensor over!

Most that have the blue sensor in the block are the same mate. Iirc on the later models they have the blue sensor but it's unused and the dial is controlled by the green sensor via the ecu.
And yes very shoddy.

Thought I'd change the fuel filter tonight, nice easy job to do considering I've never changed it on this car.
Managed to jack the car up and get underneath and pop it off. Sawed the old one in half and it was pretty grubby inside
New one got fitted up no problem. As I'd jacked it up off the rear beam mount I had a quick poke at the sill - felt a little soft..hmmm
Got my hammer out and had a quick tap about
VT kit coming off to check
Ended up looking like this.
Could have sworn this was a bit frilly but solid before but oh well, pretty gutted I didnt notice it before. Been on the phone to my dads mate who is a welder and he can come up in the next two weeks or so. I'm not bothered how neat the job looks as long as its solid and I can fit the VT kit over it, which I know it will be as this bloke is pretty decent and fair with his prices.
Looking like a right shed outside again
Oddly the drivers side is absolutely solid still with only a touch of surface rust.
Onwards and upwards though!

How easy do you reckon? I would cut it out the rot myself and shape some metal but in all honesty the welder chap will do all that in a couple of hours way better than I could ever do really.
The skirts I hosed out a while back, a tonne of shite came out though but clearly was never done before. The inside of the arch panels were full of shit too but only on the passenger side
Thought I was getting off lightly with this car recently, couldnt find much to tinker with so it had to have something up its sleeve

Still got to get someone to weld it in though, I'd have a bash if I owned a welder! The actual knurled metal jacking points being the sill are reasonably solid still its just the thinner metal of the sill further forward

Bad times. I rinsed out my side skirts are they were pitted. tbh they should of had little caps where the jacking points were.

1/2mm mate
best to try find some old panels to rob steel from if its possibility, makes life easy/cheap and keeps it easy for whoever will be welding it

20 gauge steel for the sills mate. Also get yourself a tin of zink primer and paint the inside with it saves it rusting again.
The prep and shaping is a piss ball mate and the welding isn't much harder tbh.

I'll have a go, just weighing up the cost of materials and the effort spent when the guy I know will do it for not a lot more (going on what he charged me last time)

Welder popped over to mine today and repaired the sill and associated areas
Fresh metal in
Painted with a Hammerite anti rust coating
Black shultz type stuff on
Body kit refitted with tiger seal and taped up to dry
I also sprayed the inside of the repaired sill panel inside the car, I also derusted and treated the both sill all the way up to the front of the car
Happy again now.

Looks good that mate. Normally mobile welders don't give a flying fuck but that looks a nice job mate.

Yeah I thought that too, not too bad at all. This guy mostly garages in the trade to do welding but does the odd house call and he didnt rip me off either so I was happy
