Well, time for a bit of an update I guess...
Things seem to be going well with the car at the minute! The power steering was finally all plumbed in, the electrics were sorted out and the fluids topped up and bled so now I have fully operational steering assistance! It makes to car so much nicer to drive! I honestly don't know why I took it off in the first place... Well... I do, I wanted to try it for myself, and now I know... It's crap with out it!
Once the PAS was refitted I thought I would have a go at fitting the pull handle that will be used for the electrical kill switch. I did this mostly as I had the time to muck about with it and see what it was all about. The killswitch won't actually be wired in for a while yet as I need a few parts to get it sorted... including a battery cage and some cable!
So I ended up with this...
Once I had spent 20 mins mauling about trying to open the glove box as it was fouling the cage leg, I gave in and reached for the hacksaw and this happened.
With that all sorted and the missus and her mate looking after the little tykes I thought it would be rude not to enjoy the late sunlight and take the car out for a spin. Here are a few pics of the car out at a little industrial estate up the road. I didn't want to go too far as I wanted to test a few things out and generally just give the car a smooth drive about and see what was going on with the car.
When I got back I made a list of a few things that need some attention:
Rear ARB requires tightening.
Brakes need a clean up and looking at, maybe a refurb.
Tacho needs to be made to start working again.
Tracking needs doing.
Piper backbox needs putting back on.
Radio blank plate needs populating with window and kill switches.
That pretty much sums it all up so far.
That brings me up to last weekend...
The backbox was refitted which instantly makes it sound a lot better! Still a bit raspy but a better noise than the standard box gave. A bit of autosol and on it went.
Then the switches were looked at and some hacking went on.
Sods law though, I broke the bits in between the window switches and the outer bit so I need to get another one and try again. Next time I will move the switches further in from the edge and further apart to stop any damage.
After that little lot, My good mate Jon turned up with his machine polisher as we had talked about having a go at revitalising my bonnet and rear spoiler as the sun had bleached both really badly. I forgot to get a before picture of the spoiler but the damage can clearly be seen on the bonnet and tops of the wings on this picture.
So off to the local handwash for a quick once over as I couldn't be bothered doing it myself!
Then a quick dry off in the sun!
Then we turned this:
Into this!!
Jon also turned the near white / pink spoiler into this:
This all brought me much happiness and I just wanted to get out and have a drive but beers were consumed to celebrate our achievements instead!
The rest of the weekend pootled by and Sunday saw me become a godfather again to my Niece so, a trip to Birmingham for the day and on the way home a stop in to pick up a few parts from Simon.
Monday was so nice we decided we would take a drive up to my mum and dads so the little ones could enjoy their big garden in safety! I wanted to take the car for a drive and decided Nic should follow in heres to make sure everything looked right with mine as we drove along... as you do!
Got there in one piece:
We had a great day and got home in time to get the kiddies to bed and give me some more alone time with the car.
I had a good poke around the engine but all looks okay so I had a test fit of the quick relelase boss I got.
So thats it for now.
Things to be done this week are...
Tighten the rear arb.
Trace and rectify fault on brake lights.
Sort tracking.
Try and salvage or redo stereo blank.
Source bolts for steering wheel and fit properly.
I should have some good updates this weekend also. If I can get all those bits done then I should be getting to a happy place with the car and I will just need to get out and burn some fuel up and enjoy it again.
No solid plans for any track time as yet but some interesting and super cool updates will be coming by the end of the month on that front.
Sorry it was a long winded and pic heavy one.
