well.
went to start it up today, and its tight to turn over. i thought it was the battery as it just got slower and slower, tried another battery off my 206 and still the same.
its at the point where the starter motor just engages and isnt able to turn it over

Could it be down to the new end shells, piston rings ect?

ITS ALIVE!!!

My manager from work come round and towed me up the road!
the engine was too tight for the poor little starter motor to turn over but now turns on the key

But i do need a new turbo oil feed pipe as the one i have is pissing out oil.
need to sort the ICV out as well as it just sucks the pipe flat and either sits at 1500 rpm or keeps climbing :/

Nice one glad its alive

I would have been gutted to have that happen to mine on first turn if I thought it was broke.

i was a bit gutted tbh.
I initially thought ahh. flat battery as it turned over but got slower and slower until it stopped.
Double checked the timing as i was starting to panic, but that was all ok.
As i was turning it over it was still pretty tight so just put it down to tight end shells and new piston rings ect.
My manager from work popped round when he had finished and gave me a tow up the road. I left it in 2nd gear for 1/4 of a mile then went to test it and it fired up straight away

Reference to the ford coilpack, i didnt wire it up in the end, used the standard coilpack for now until its all sorted then i can wire it in.

Today was a total nightmare.
Pirtek rand me to tell me my oil feed pipe was made, so i went up there to collect it, headed home and went to fit it. There was an instant problem. The Banjo and sleeve are a bit longer and it pushes into the radiator! So i need to find a solution around this.
I was thinking a longer banjo bolt and perhaps a spacer so i can rotate it 90degrees clockwise so it doesnt touch the rad!

Smashed my O/s Headlight as i dropped it.
Was running up the engine to bleed the cooling system ect, it was warmed up, held it at around 3k rpm and POP. The oil filter sandwich plate blew off!

Upon closer inspection, it had broken before and been welded back up. Something i failed to realise before i fitted it, and with me tightening it up probably didnt help it.
So i took a trip up to rally design and luckily they had one in stock.

I dont like the way the oil cooler is sitting and not too happy with the intercooler, but they are both proving tricky for me to mount anywhere.
Beginning to wish i hadnt started as everything is becoming a problem

Just glad today is over with lol

was going to try that tomorrow, but not sure if it will go as the waterfeed banjo might be in the way?

Default Jon's icelandic Vtr turbo build- Final stages!

Avoid the mocal sandwich plates like the fucking plague mate. Swap to a torques alloy one while you have it apart. The mocal ones are fucking shite.

John at GMC has seen loads smash like that, and when mine did exactly the same thing on the dyno (costing me about £400 in lost dyno time) he told me he'd made mocal aware several years ago. The metal is weak as fuck.

That's mine 2+ years ago. As you can see, nothing's changed in mocals production despite being repeatedly told about this problem they clearly don't give a shit.

Thats exactly what happened to this one!

it was my fault for not checking it.
When it blew itself off i had to remove the rest of it from the threaded part on the engine block, i put it back together and you can see where it had been ground back and welded!

Teaches me not to pick up second hand parts and not check them.

Also forgot to mention my coolant gauge has a red light on, the gauge seems to work, and as soon as the ignition is on, the cooling fan comes on

I had swapped my sensors from my previous engine onto this one to hopefully avoid something like this.
Going to put the old one back in tomorrow and hope it might work.
Perhaps i may have left an earth off from somewhere?

Did you keep an eye on those all important AFR's? Also did you note down how much peak boost pressure you see??

You can get the laptop to LOG all that to an Excel spreadsheet which is MUCH easier. Then you can send it to me and I can tell you how long your engine will last !!

You've got what can be best described as a 'base map'. It's got fairly soft ignition timing, and the fuelling curve should be *about* right, but it still needs someone to carefully map the fuel side of things, but as I said, watch your AFR's and get the little niggles ironed out, like the pipes popping off and what-not

Well,
got some new plans.
Going to buy a new intercooler and pipework ect. Not happy with it. Its a mess imo.

Rads leaking aswell as i didnt move the banjo like a nob!

So im going to fit a 106 diesel rad and remote header tank.

Then i can mount the oil cooler down the bottom, move the rad the other side of the slam panel and mount the intercooler infront of that. Should look alot neater and ill have room so the banjo doesnt touch the rad.

In theory.
