is there any real reason why the older vtr's have less power, get a worse occonomy and produce more emissions?

anything that can be done to reverse any of these downfalls?

The single plug ECU is easier to map!
Blacktops respond better to NA tuning, however they lack a knock sensor so forced induction isn't as good!

the one main differenc with the black top and silver top engines is that the black top is a cheaper engine to modify due to a flat cam.
meant to be cheaper to buy cams.

I posted in the wrong thread like a newbie should, but now I have found this thread I can repeat myself. I have a blown (in the bad way) 2000 NFZ engine with the coil pack on top of the injectors, screw in oil filter and no visible lambda sensor. Are brown rocker covers really just rusty silver tops?? It is definately not the black top version, but I am having trouble in the scrappy finding a replacement engine, they all seem to look about right, but then have a plastic oil filter with a paper element, or the wrong coil pack. Will my ECU run these engines? And will they fit in my car? Or does it have to match exactly? When I ring a breakers yard they seem to think any NFZ engine will fit. I just want to drop the engine in without too much fuss.
Thanks for your help.
