Ice question. (not using head unit)
I've just tried wiring my Saxo the same way I had the Prelude. I was using my phone and tablet as the head unit in the Prelude.
I wired up an active subwoofer and a separate amp and made sure they had power. Then I used a normal headphone jack to RCA wire and split that between the amp and subwoofer. I then wired the speaker wires straight to the amplifier and plugged my phone in.
Now in the prelude I'd flick a switch I had wired to the remote wires (to turn the ice on and off without a HU) and I could play and change music on my phone, and it came through the car.
Now ive just done the exact same on the VTS, and nothing. The sub is booming away and the amp is on, but no speaker noise.
Any help appreciated, does the saxo speakers require separate power? I wouldn't think so but im not sure. Also, there's a button on the dash that looks like a mute button for the standard sound system, I haven't got it wired to anything though?
Thanks
Ethan

Can I ask what the advantages are of not using a head unit? I can sort of see how you've done it but I don't get why you would do it?
As for why it's not working, it must be a bad connection or something you've done as Saxo speakers are just normal speakers they don't need their own power source. Maybe you have a - and + mixed up somewhere. And the mute button is irrelevant if it isn't connected to anything.

I'll have to have another look at it tomorrow, I tried wiring them up in different ways and just couldn't get them to work.
The speaker wires are just pairs of colours, how do you tell whats + or - ?
Also, I have a massive music and video collection on my tablet, well sorted and organised and I'd like to be able to take that to the car easier instead of worrying about anything else. Plus, I use my tablet as a satnav if I ever need one, so it's handy to keep everything on one device.

I've never been sure about which one is - and + on the front speakers but just make sure you have them both the same way around on both sides.
I honestly still can't see any benefits to bypassing the headunit? You can still use your tablet or phone through the headunit using an aux port or if your headunit is compatable you could use a USB socket.
You could identify the correct +and - wires easier on a headunit.
You said you'd like to plug in your tablet without worrying about anything else, well I'd say you're making the job harder with all this wiring which could easily go through one unit then plug your tablet into that!

Its not that hard, when I set it up on the lude it took a whole of 30 minutes to do everything from scratch, I just couldn't get the speakers working today.

Pretty sure the mute button on the saxo is for the oem alarm.

Is there anywhere else to put 6x9s other than parcel shelf or boot?

How come everyone thinks 6x9s are rubbish and not worth it? I thought they seemed pretty good when I listened to some
