Default Helmets

Does anybody have any recommendations as to the best place to buy a helmet primarily for (car) track use? I'm not after anything ridiculously expensive one but will pay for quality

Its an hjc. Was about 100 i think. Matte black. I love it

If you are doing car track days (esp MSV ones) you need one that confirms with the latest MSA regs, ie BS6658 Type A or 'blue label'.

A bike helmet will not have this, but may be Snell 2005 approved (which is also ok). I suggest you do some research into this subject before buying anything

I have an OMP Veloce fyi.

If you're after an OMP Jet Axis, theres normally a chap on eBay that sells brand new ones for a starting bid of £40 (& they normally stay at that) ... a couple of mates have bought them off him.

Personally, id spend a little extra & get a full face, you can use if for karting then, & well, its a little bit safer imho.

I have a full face one, open face defeats the object of a helmet pretty much lol

Dont buy a helmet on line!
At least not until you have a make and model you like in a size that fits snug.
Once you have done that see if you can get a better price online.
But remember one make of helmet ina certain may not be as comfortable as another make even if the size is the same.
Ive had arai and shoei in the past and although the arai is generaly more expensive, and has better features i prefer to wear a shoei as it feels nicer.

Also remember you need to look after the helmet.
Dont use it as a door stop or sit ön it and make sure it doesnt roll around the boot or footwell on the way to the track.
If any cracks or damage appear in the outer shell then the helmet should be discarded as the strength may be significantly affected

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/ or http://www.gprdirect.com/ are a good place to start. Snell helmets are the safest to go for but only last 3 years. BS safety has no set life but your still best to replace regularly. I see you said primarily for cars if your thinking you may wish to use in on a bike or scooter or the likes you cant. The ratings are different but also the basic design is different on most. Car helmets have a nasty habit of snapping necks if used on bikes.
